I am so tired of living with a toddler. DD turned into a much more reasonable human after her 4th birthday. DS is close to 5 and is still SO LOUD and obnoxious.
Am I allowed to say that out loud? I feel like I'm not because I'll be met with the "oh you'll miss this." No, I won't. I'm very much a "live in the present and deal with what's on hand" kind of person.
I think that’s totally fine to say and realistic. I was just asking my partner what age we were looking forward to in the future and we both said over 7 years old. Toddlers are difficult!
DS1 is 7 and I was just thinking yesterday and today how enjoyable he is. We have things to chat about, he has interesting things to tell me, his sense of humor has developed a lot.
I have always said that I enjoy my kids more and more the older they get. I don’t really miss any previous stage because they are that much more fun to be around as they get older.
I had a dream baby and toddler and preschooler….and now he is a moody AF almost 8YO, and I’m sad. He was so full of delight and wonder and joy…and now he is constantly crabby and sarcastic. Where did he go?!
We spent seven hours with friends at a trampoline place and then their house. It was very fun, but my ears need a recovery from all the noise. We have absolutely zero on the agenda for tomorrow, and I am very excited about that.
Less than four weeks until we leave for our big vacation of the year (Disney cruise)!

I just booked one of these on Friday for later this year!
Whether or not we can actually go on the cruise will depend on what the school calendar looks like when it is published. The travel agent said my deposit is refundable in case we can't.
We had DD's party later on in the day and DS was so good during the whole thing. This makes up for all the toddler antics we endured in Target when we went shopping for a few last minute party supplies.

We cut down a tree every year for our Christmas tree. My daughter names it at the farm. This year, she named the tree “Elvis Presley.”
We got the tree the day after thanksgiving.
And I have been waiting since November 25 to put this thing on the curb for our town’s tree pickup/wood chipping to say, “Ladies and gentleman, Elvis has left the building.”
Today was the day. The long-awaited bad joke. It felt so good 🤣
Poeticxpassion , do you keep all your Lego sets or re-sell them or something? I really would like to do more, but it would be cost prohibitive to just keep buying them. I can’t decide if I’m committed enough to taking them apart for resale though. I asked my mom to get me the app-controlled Cat bulldozer for my birthday/Christmas this year though! It’s work appropriate since I work for a giant construction company. I think we actually have the largest contract with Cat of any contractor. So it will be a fun thing to have on my desk at work.
I keep most of my Harry Potter and Star Wars sets. I also buy in Bulk and look for deals. I do sell them as well.
krystee a friend of mine pulled out a pair of ear plugs at the bounce house years ago and I was so jealous! She said she keeps them in her purse at all times just in case.
My kids are 7 and 10 and even with the attitudes I enjoy this stage so much more than the toddler/preschool years!
Though they are seriously the loudest children I’ve ever encountered. Ds2’s teacher has even mentioned how loud he is lol. So much noise.
Both DS2’s pre-k and kindergarten teachers have talked about how he has zero volume control. The child is either whispering (and only in situations where that’s problematic, like driving in the car) or yelling. Good Lord. It’s a lot.
The vet gave us trazadone to give the dog on an as-needed basis. We have a new dog walker coming to meet him today so we're testing it out. He hated dramamine when we used to give it to him for car rides so I was worried he wouldn't take it. Luckily we had a hot dog so I was able to slip it past him. I really hope it helps him.
My kid is 11 and we have this weird catch-all "toybox" in the family room with alll the misfit toys, Hot Wheels cars and random "claw game" prizes in it. He decided that TODAY was THE DAY to clean up the toy corner (there's also a Lego drawer & a bin, plus a rack of shit on top of the toybox).
We have amassed a bin to donate to my school library's Makerspace (fake Legos, Snapcircuit sets, K'nex kits, card games), 2 bags to donate to Goodwill, and he kept the real Legos (to be stored with all of our other Legos in the basement--why were these separate again, son?), the Bakugan stuff, the BeyBlades stuff, Flakes, and Nerf. The surviving "toys" all fit very neatly in the toybox now, and he is satisfied (he did most of the work!).
As he was getting down to the bottom of the toybox, he said, "Ahhhhhh, I'm seeing my entire childhood right now." OMG, he's a 70 year old man, lol.
My 3 year old was walking obnoxiously with his hands in his pockets and his jacket over his head. I kept telling him to stop and what do you know he fell and because his hands were in his pocket his face broke his fall! Why are kids like this?

Maybe I have a set you can borrow to build instead of having to buy your own?
sent, krystee, have inspired me to look for a Disney cruise for 2024. Thanks!
We did a Disney cruise in 2019, and it was really fun. My DS said it was the best part of the whole Disney vacation (he LOVED the kids zone thingy). I have no desire to go on a cruise for vacation, however, I would consider it if it’s a Disney cruise.
Despite J’s runny nose we got in over 2.5 hours outside this morning between two playgrounds and running around in the backyard. At some point he’s going to become an unpleasant toddler I’m sure but so far 2 has been so much fun. As long as he gets to run around and burn off steam because man this kid is BUSY. But I don’t mind that, especially when the weather is ok like today. My wife is working all day so it’s just the two of us. We might try to do a gingerbread house later since we have a kit.
No real plans this weekend, will mostly just try to get outside again tomorrow and get my head in the game for my first full week of work since mid-Dec next week.
You might get lucky with DS! Our first year with DD was rough but once she hit toddlerhood she's been a dream. She's 3.5 now and I keep waiting to hit a bad age but it's all been great, she's such a fun kid. (it's possible that we'll hit a bad age at some point but I think we'll make it out of toddler years unscathed!)
Agree with this. My DS is 6 and has been a delight every year of his life (past infant sleep troubles).
My DD on the other hand… (love her, but she’s…challenging).

I prefer having an older child, my son is about to turn 10. I only wanted one kid anyway so while he was an easy baby and easy toddler, it's nice that he's older.
I think what's just different is, you lose the feeling of being the center of their little world. I'm not picking him up at daycare anymore and he runs over with a huge hug anymore. He comes home from school and now wants to be in his room with the door shut. He has stories to tell and we do stuff together, but it's more on his terms. He's more interested in what his friends are doing or what is happening in his school community.
And of course that's normal and expected but it's kind of bittersweet too.
7 nights on the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral to Eastern Caribbean (St. Thomas and Tortola, plus Castaway Cay), including Pixar day at sea! I cannot wait. Our itinerary was eligible for the Disney+ deal, where two kids are free with two paying adults).
I started reading Kindred last night, got sucked in, and stayed up too late. Which resulted in me getting up too late to get in my morning restorative yoga, because my H and I got up at the same time. Now if I want to do it, I'll have to drag all my props downstairs and be freezing in the basement (good for sweaty bike riding, bad for slow, napping yoga).

Forgetting to take Effexor two, possibly three nights in a row? 0/10 DO NOT recommend. Omg I slept all day but with the most horrible nightmares. I feel like I got the shit beaten outta me!

Good thing H and I have a strong relationship because putting together a LoveSac sectional might the thing that has challenged our marriage the most. 🤪
One of the big parades announced Mel Gibson to be a Grand Marshall today, and due to the backlash they removed him several hours later. Lol. At least we got something right!
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I know what you mean! We had a hell of a time getting the covers on the side pieces. And it’s not easy to get the feet and shoes lined up.
We went to four stores today looking for invitations for DS’ birthday party. The first store had one pack that was “ok” but we decided to keep looking and never found any others, even at party stores where they had all the other party paraphernalia. Are printed invites not a thing anymore?
DD takes ballet at the same studio I grew up at. She mainly takes classical ballet. We just found out that her studio complex (including the gym, preschool, etc.; it's unusual) was sold with basically no notice to the instructors. And, for a variety of reasons, the dance program will likely not survive.
I am so upset for her and just at a loss. There is nothing to do right now but wait. Our only semi-reasonable classical ballet options are the academy associated with our major ballet company, which I absolutely do not want to do, or another school owned by a crazy director which is not actually all that good. I really don't even know what to do. Driving her an hour+ each way for ballet at age 10 is a level of intense that I don't want to wade into.

I was deceived by the blurb that says it takes 15 minutes per box.
I tested positive for Covid Monday (first time ever in our house) and I only felt a little “off”. I tested because I was due to go back in the office Tuesday and wanted to ease my mind. I was shocked it actually was positive.
I’ve spent the last week in my room, with my dogs, working and binging Ginny and Georgia (loved it, mean it). It’s now over and tomorrow is day 6, so I can “officially” un-isolate from the other people in my home.
But I don’t want to. It’s been like a vacation (I only felt a little achy Tuesday) and don’t want to be a responsible adult/parent again.
LOL I feel this so hard. I didn’t have covid but had some kind of fever/achy/chills virus last Monday-Thursday and it legitimately felt like vacation-I got to sleep in our comfortable guest bed allll by myself, watch Netflix and read my book while my husband mostly took care of the kids/cooked, etc. 10 out of 10 would recommend 😂😂😂

I ran into this too. Even party city didn’t have any!
I ended up doing a printable pdf thing and using card stock at home. I’m still annoyed 🤷🏻♀️
