I live in Brazil. My husband is brazilian. In Rio de Janeiro right now. What's been happening politically, for the last several years is scary for the democracy here.
Obviously, what happened at the capital is horrible. But there's just something so odd about it. Bolsonaro supporters have been peacefully protesting in front of military headquarters around the country for months. Then all of a sudden, an extremist faction joined in and this happened. Now, all of the peaceful protest are being vacated "just in case".
In general, what gets reported in the international news is so biased towards the left that it's alarming. The Supreme Court justices have been abusing their power at an alarming rate.
My husband and I aren't Bolsonarist, but he voted for Bolsonaro because there was no way his conscious could vote for Lula. A former president who was convicted in several courts of corruption, jailed, and then released on a technicality.

I understand the problems with Bolsonaro. I am not a Bolsonarist. I cannot support Lula at all or the actions of the Supreme Court to bring him back to power.
Our biggest concern with the democracy here is the power taken by the Supreme Court.
