Timing for booking flights

H and I are planning a trip for November to Costa Rica to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. When is the best time to book our flights? Now? Wait a few months? We don't fly a ton, so I've never tracked prices or worried about timing.

What airline?
We normally fly Delta, and they are pretty good about giving you eCredits if the price goes down after you book. It's not their stated policy, but I've done it recently.

In my recent experience, flight prices only go up, especially for these exotic destinations.

The cheapest flight is Air Canada out of Detroit, but travel time is 12 hours. The flight we're planning to book is with American Airlines - has shorter travel time & flight times that are good for us. Delta, the airline we normally fly, has flights for $7000 (LOL).
