My brother in law literally lives two blocks from here, he can see all of the police tape from his front yard. (He and his roommates are safe)

So fucking heartbreaking. So fucking infuriating that any community isn’t safe to celebrate.

It’s surreal that the suspect is on the loose too. Usually with mass shootings, the shooter either kills themselves, the police shoot them, or they are taken into custody alive. How scary for everyone in the area knowing he’s still out there.

I just read that there is a standoff believed to be associated with the shootings.

They think they have the suspect surrounded in a shopping center about a mile from me. There are helicopters and blocked streets. We have two independent police departments here and a few other cities contract with LAPD. The town the suspect is surrounded in and my town both have their own PD and SWAT. It appears that the two towns’ SWAT are who have the suspect’s van surrounded.

Local news is holding for a press conference to start now.

The activity is on the route that my teen would normally take to get to work from his dad’s house. I’ve been following him on find my phone since he left his dad’s hoping he took a different route. I would call and tell him to reroute, but he doesn’t answer his phone while driving (which I’m not complaining about). It’s like four blocks from his workplace.

It appears a lot of the police and news have left and the suspect is dead.

Sorry had family so close the the actual shooting. I am sure they are still shaken. I hope the community finds a way to heal.

I feel paralyzed about what else to say in these threads anymore, but I also remember what it felt like when it happened near me. My heart goes out to everyone impacted, especially the loved ones of those killed.

Ugh what is this world coming to. My next door dormmate in college was from Monterey Park so I’ve heard so many stories about that city (and the delicious food and traditions) over the years. Her parents are very involved in their community and they are almost certain they will know someone who was at the dance studio. They were worried it was an anti-Asian hate crime but it appears the perpetrator was Asian too.

This is so sad. I always feel like It’s only a few hours from me and I feel like I hardly heard anything about it anywhere. Like mass shootings of this magnitude are so common now that it doesn’t phase people.
