Ministers have been accused of leaving a “record of failure and broken promises” as internal forecasts show Britain will be 15 years late in achieving its £1tn annual export target after being hit by Brexit.
Johnson denies conflict of interest in appointment of BBC chairman Labour asks watchdog to examine recruitment process after reports Richard Sharp helped former PM with personal finances. Labour has asked the watchdog for public appointments to examine the recruitment process after it was reported Richard Sharp helped Johnson with his personal finances during the interview process for the role at the corporation.
The Sunday Times said Sharp, a former Goldman Sachs banker, was involved in helping to sort out a guarantee on a loan worth up to £800,000 for Johnson in late 2020.
Boris Johnson appears in Ukraine amid further questions over finances Boris Johnson made a surprise visit to Ukraine as he comes under pressure over claims that he involved the BBC chair Richard Sharp in talks that led to his securing an £800,000 line of credit while at No 10.
The former prime minister was seen walking in the surburbs of Kyiv on Sunday, despite warnings from senior military figures that he should stay away and stop “looking for publicity”. Another link
Nadhim Zahawi’s future threatened as Labour steps up pressure over tax affairs Angela Rayner says Rishi Sunak should come clean about any concerns raised with No 10 about ex-chancellor and HMRC penalty. Nadhim Zahawi’s political future appeared under increasing threat on Sunday night, after Labour pushed hard for answers about his tax issues and government colleagues offered little support for his plight.
After a weekend dominated by questions over the Conservative party chair’s tax position, Labour signalled its intention to pin the controversy on to Rishi Sunak, demanding the prime minister explain if he knew about the issue when he appointed Zahawi to his cabinet. (If you want to know what he did, here's a bit of an overview - yes, he is a lying liar who lies and it's not the first time).
Sajid Javid calls for patients to pay for GP and A&E visits Radical reforms needed to tackle waiting times, says former health secretary. Patients should be charged for GP appointments and A&E visits, Sajid Javid has said, as he called the present model of the NHS “unsustainable”.
The former health secretary said “extending the contributory principle” should be part of radical reforms to tackle growing waiting times.
In an opinion piece for the Times, he called for a “grown-up, hard-headed conversation” about revamping the health service, noting that “too often the appreciation for the NHS has become a religious fervour and a barrier to reform”. (Or you could stop paying private companies to do the work and actually raise the pay of nurses and put more money into the NHS instead of slowly depriving it and also stop fucking BREXIT which is part of this - yes, I'm very, very angry about the Tories ruining the NHS).
What the F is up with the UK government trying to block Scotland from passing legislation making it easier to change their gender? Their reasoning is so obviously spurious that I don't see how they can do this.
I'm just astounded that their bigotry is driving this massive overreach (my understanding is that the UK never blocks legislation).

Yup. It's unprecedented. And awful. Like everything going on in this fucked up gov't.
mrsd2006, Brexit is the gift that is going to be going on and still being fought/attempted changes made until we get out of it. It was never something that would work and so everyone is angry. Our current gov't are clueless louts, so they are fighting against it while also trying to use it for their own gain.
At this point, most of the stuff that was meant to happen with Brexit is done and screwing us in so many ways. But I don't see it ever being 'over' or 'finished'.
mrsukyankee , you think it will ever be reversed and rejoin?
We'll at least join the single market is my guess. What's happening is not sustainable and eventually it'll have an impact on even the wealthy.
Would the UK rejoin if they had to give up the pound? My understanding when the UK left is that the EU was really firm on not allowing them to rejoin without using the Euro.

It gives the Scottish separatist movement more ammunition.
(ETA, that's clearly not the Tories' reasoning, it's just a natural consequence.)
Yes, absolutely. It seems like a really bad political move, but not sure how it balances with the popularity of targeting transgender people in the UK. It's so gross.

bears, we could join the single market and still keep our currency, but we wouldn't be an EU country, just a trading country with rules and regulations to follow (but w/o input).

Thanks for explaining. I follow a good number of UK news sources but I need to make more of an effort in understanding the government and politics of the UK. Whenever I think I'm close to getting it, I'm surprised to learn another nuance that changes my perception yet again. I'm just knowledgeable enough to not realize how much I don't know.
Rishi Sunak has sacked the Conservative party chair, Nadhim Zahawi, after he was found to have breached the ministerial code by failing to declare the HMRC investigation into his tax affairs.
An investigation by the prime minister’s ethics adviser, Sir Laurie Magnus, concluded that Zahawi had made a “serious breach” of the code by not telling officials he was under investigation by the tax body when he was appointed chancellor by Boris Johnson.
My thoughts - the only reason that this happened is because a HUGE uproar has happened. I think they were hoping it would pass by uncommented on. One more nail in the coffin for the Tories.
The media is gearing up with so much support of her (right wing media, which is a lot of it). It's unbelievable. Same with all the Boris J crap. I will have the biggest party when the Tories lose their seats and the majority.

How long until that can happen?
January 2025 unless something happens beyond our expectations. FAR TOO LONG.
