I have no plans to watch this video but I continue to be appalled at the state of policing in this country. And it does not escape my notice the speed with which these officers were arrested and charged. I do not think (scratch that...I know) that this would be the case when the officers are white.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

There are no words for this. There is no way of reforming something this far gone. At the very least bareass minimum, police should be kept entirely out of traffic and wellness checks.
According to NPR, two fire department employees (presumably EMT’s), have been released from duty as well. They were involved in his “initial patient care”. Sounds like even those tasked to help him, failed as well. This is beyond tragic.
What’s more is that this still won’t be seen as police brutality against brown men. They’ve written others off as “a few racist bad apples”. But I can just now see this being spun with the “black on black crime” trope. Anything to not blame the underlying systemic problems of the “Brotherhood” as a whole.

To me it seems like evidence that our system is even MORE broken. Our entire concept of how police fit into our society need to be scrapped and started over again. There surely is a place to have helpers and people who enforce our laws, but the current way we do this is failing so many people.

Oh, I agree with you. But, you are a rational person willing to think critically. I was simply pointing out the cognitive dissonance that will come into play to ignore exactly what you said.

I know, unfortunately there will be a “narrative” about how this killing is different from others because of the race of the killers. While there may not have been individual racism involved, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t institutional racism. But in order to believe that, you’d have to agree that institutional racism is a thing, and unfortunately so many people don’t.

Yes, and black people who live in a white supremacist society can still have bias toward other black people - they are functioning in the same system we all are. The whole system is fucked up. I don't have a lot of faith anything will change from this, but I hope it highlights that this isn't just a "some racist white people" issue but an issue with the way policing is conducted in this country.
