Since the beginning of the year, ranked from most to least favorite
Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton Ten Steps to Nanette by Hannah Gadsby The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren (enjoyed this more than I thought I would) Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey (good writing, just not a genre I usually read) We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange (giving my reason would give away a plot point)
Well the last thing I read was a training/instructional design book lol.
I have been in a huge reading rut for the past 3-4 months. I was reading probably a book a week all summer and spring of last year. I pretty much exclusively read thrillers/suspense novels. It's just what I like. And several times I have gone on Good Reads or Amazon to find a new one to read and nothing sounded good to me. Or I'd start one and not get into it.
So if anyone has good suspense/thrillers, I'd love recs. I have read a lot of them, but there's always a chance it's one I've not read yet. I don't care for paranormal thrillers.
Some recent(ish) ones I’ve enjoyed:
Secluded Cabin, Sleeps Six The Last to Vanish Blood Sugar The Paris Apartment The Book of Cold Cases All Good People Here

I recently read The Lavender House and it was really fast but good. I also read Sometimes I Lie from Alice Feeney and Rock Paper Scissors. I liked the twist of Sometimes I Lie more, but got super bored in the middle and almost didnt finish it. But it may have been just where I was reading I kept having to start and stop and was getting annoyed lol.
I read Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance (A Espach) which I really enjoyed. I’d say a solid 3.5-4 stars)
And
Memphis (T. Stringfellow) which I LOVED!! This book is a jewel. The writing was just so good and the characters really came to life. It’s one I want to be a movie so I can see it come to life even more.
I have House on the Cerulean Sea and My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry waiting to be picked up at the library
I don’t really know of very many people who have read Memphis. I read it last year and loved it. It was one of four I end up buying at the end of the year (which I do annually for my favorites)
Cerulean Sea is great and My Grandmother is my favorite Backman book.

You have great taste. 😉
You are one of the people whose recommendations I put on my list! I probably got the idea for Memphis from you!
Just finished “Lessons in Chemistry” and “Spare.” Loved them both.
Binged “the Light We Carry” on audio this weekend and felt like I should be taking notes. Every sentence in that book felt important (in the best way), and listening to her read it took it to the next level.
May re-read Eva Luna, by Isabelle Allende. I read it in college, in Spanish, and remember liking it, but my days of being able to read fluently in Spanish are a bit distant, sadly. I’ve been reading some of her books lately (in English) and I really enjoy them. Her writing is dense, so they aren’t quick reads, but they are beautiful.
I set a personal record for January, 12 books. I'm usually more of a 2-3 person.
Some of them I enjoyed:
The Club Carrie Soto is back Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Took more FOREVER to get into, probably started this 5 times over the last few months, but after the halfway point I really liked it Book lovers
Did not like: Rock paper scissors
I also started the Agatha Raisin mystery series. Silly British murder mysteries. My hardest thing is getting into books and these are so easy to read/listen to while I fold laundry and do other things. THhey aren't winning any awards, but I enjoy them.
Right now I'm about to finish up House in the Pines - I like it. Also reading the Whisper Network - ehh.
I just finished Now is Not the Time to Panic by Kevin Wilson. It was really good. His other book "nothing to see here" is one of my all time favorites. His writing is really unique.
I'm reading Remarkably Bright Creatures now. So far so good, but I'm not very far into it yet.
mcppalmbeach, I just finished The Candy House. It was really well written, but I didn't like it--it was one of those books I figured out I didn't like too far in to stop reading. I felt like the vignettes were too loosely related and I wish it got more into the meat of the collective unconscious. I felt like Lincoln's chapter would have been more effective (and interesting) later on in the book.
I started Cloud Cuckoo Land last night. It seems interesting so far and I liked All the Light We Cannot See, but I was emotionally spent after reading that book. Wondering if this one will do the same.
I just finished a re-read of two books in the Oxford Time Travel Series, Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis. The book centers around historians who time travele to WW2 England on assignment and get stranded in the Blitz. I think this was my third read and every time I read more details reveal themselves to me.
I'm currently reading Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows. I'm enjoying it. Prior to that, I read The Last Bookshop in London, The Librarian Spy, The Ship of Brides, and We All Want Impossible Things. We All Want Impossible Things has been my favorite recently.
I'm currently reading Nine Perfect Strangers. It better hurry up because I'm about 25% through it after a week and I'm BORED.
Next is Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
I read Nine Perfect Strangers and kept expecting some big reveal about the guests, I went into it thinking they would be intertwined somehow....I won't spoil it but I didn't love it and just finished so I could add it to my Goodreads challenge.

All Good People Here was good! I have read a few books by Ashley Flowers and they are pretty similar and all good.
Karin Slaughter is also a good bet, her books are easy to get into and always hold my interest. Same with Gillian Flynn. When I am in a rut I go on the Libby app and just search for available thrillers in whatever format I like, then sort by popularity.
The Last House on Needless Street was REALLY good too. I was bummed when I finished it and there was nothing left to read.

Very slowly chipping away at Lessons in Chemistry. Don't flame me, but I'm not that into it just over 50% through.
I picked up a couple of books at the library last night to try to get out of my reading slump. I think I'll pick up "The Day He Left" by Frederick Weisel first.
9 Perfect Strangers was ok. I had to move to audiobook to get through it, but I agree stick to the end because the ending makes it worth it. Haven't watched the Hulu show.
I recommend "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn as a thriller, but if you haven't read her stuff be warned she is d.a.r.k.

Put this book down, it's god awful. I couldn't even finish it.
