I spent three hours at the emergency vet last night: dog decided to eat the last 6 of a box of chocolate peanut butter cookies. I think he actually got less chocolate than they thought (they kept saying chocolate chip cookies, so they thought it was a darker chocolate than it actually was) but better to be safe anyway. He seems completely fine now, so fingers crossed that continues. The crazy part is the cookies were in the same spot they had been for at least a full week — no idea why he was suddenly interested now. Obviously will not keep food on that shelf anymore.

It's DS1s 14th birthday tomorrow, so plans are up to him for the weekend. He's being super indecisive, so probably sitting around the house. 🤣
Anything to escape my week is fine with me. A random person whose name I'm only familiar with because she bashes schools on Facebook did an open records request on me this week, asking for my personnel file from my school district. I'm a kindergarten teacher with 20+ years experience, a master's degree+ credits, and I make around $65k a year, which is all public information. I am not sure what she's trying to accomplish because I don't even know her, but just add it to the disheartening things happening in our schools right now. Luckily my principal and our superintendent are super supportive, but it's just frustrating when it's already a tough year.

Get yourself some peroxide and a big animal syringe to keep on hand! We had a greyhound who once ate a wrapped three pound box of chocolate (among other things like two pounds of butter and a bag of cough drops) so we became very familiar with making her puke with peroxide!

Joey decided he wanted to be up at 5:30, so it's been a long morning already. We have lots of cleaning/organizing to do. Luckily it's too cold to go anywhere so there's no choice but to get it done.
My sister and I found our (now deceased) aunt's will, and she and I are her sole beneficiaries. 50/50. Holy. Shit. I've decided to put an addition on our minuscule house, and I can't stop thinking about it. For some reason, my dumb baciagaloop husband thinks he gets to design this? It's ok. I will win.
Speaking of organizing, I have lost the thermometer and two pairs of baby nail clippers. HOW? Where did they go!?

My boyfriend and I were supposed to go on a road trip today but he has influenza.
I haven’t seen him in about two weeks, and so ut sucks. This was going to be the only real chance to spend time together in the next month, so it sucks.

If our vet had still been open to advise, I’m sure they would have suggested that — at the time, it didn’t seem smart to mess around with DIY.

We are also in the unusually cold temps, -11 at 7am when I walked the dog. Thankfully the wind has died down though. Last night I went out with friends and just the walk from car to restaurant was brutal. We had tickets to see 80 For Brady after, but the movie theater had lost power so that didn’t happen.
It was a good night still, one of the group is having her double mastectomy/DIEP flap reconstruction on Tuesday so we gifted her some stuff like a mastectomy pillow and robe (great suggestions from here!). She had bought nothing like this already so she was grateful. She also loved the candle that said “I wish I could take your pain and give it to someone we hate”.
Fucking insurance is suck a racket! They only cover one inhaler and spacer! And by cover, I mean pay $20 of the total amount. DS needs one for school and home. We can afford to pay OOP for a second one but so many people can't. Our healthcare system is so fucking horrible.
Support your local Girl Scouts and buy online with direct shipping, lol
At least my kid is a fabulous co-pilot.
That's what we should be doing today, but it's cold and we don't wanna 😂 We're seeing a lot of DD's customers next weekend anyway so we'll deliver then.
Lazy day here. I don't think I even need to deal with food, plenty of leftovers for lunch and dinner. Hardest thing is going to be keeping the dog entertained since it's too cold for a long walk, we'll probably make her do some sniff games.

I have to take DS to urgent care this morning because he woke up with what appears to be a perforated ear drum. 🤦🏻♀️ Every year, he gets really sick in February. It’s like clockwork.
We’re down to one car this week because H’s is finally getting fixed from the accident he had in October so DD has to miss dance today. I haven’t told her yet. She’s gonna be bummed.
m15 , WTAF? I'm not going to quote in case you want to delete, but what does this crazy lady hope to accomplish with those records?
Honestly, no idea. She's part of a larger group going after public schools in our area. She requested my contract (public info anyway), my disciplinary file (non-existent because I've never had an issue), and my employee evaluations (which they can't legally release, but I told my superintendent to go ahead because they're all glowing--he won't though.) My super told me that all he does lately is fill these requests. He's getting them regularly. In fact, my principal said our school got one last week because someone wanted to know what we were spending the money from a fundraiser on (the total we earned was around $3,000.) They want to ensure we are not buying books that haven't been board approved. This group will find absolutely nothing on me, but it's just an added layer of stress for everyone involved.
I want to be lazy today but I also need to go to Costco plus some other grocery store. We have no groceries and the kids are starting to notice. We have Hello Fresh for dinners, but they are missing snacks and bread/milk.
We got a Sola stove for Christmas and it’s been raining or we’ve been OOT every weekend, so I think we are going to pick up some wood and try it out. Adding s’mores to the list!
It’s finally not frigid here and some of our snow is melting! It’s about time, we have snow that’s been on the ground since December and that’s not normal for Colorado. DH and I are taking DS2 to a Nuggets basketball game tonight and then to stay in a hotel downtown, it was his big Christmas gift. I hope it’s fun, he’s super into basketball so I think he’s going to love it. DS1 also gets to go spend the night with my parents. He loves spending time with them and they adore him so it’ll be good. They are usually good for a pep talk regarding school and grades as well😉.

It's pink eye 😳 I did a telehealth appointment and they called in eye drops. I haven't gotten new glasses in years so seeing will be difficult the next few days lol.
m15, I don't have kids but your story makes me want to go get involved with local schools so I can fight these stupid people. If she comes after you, tell us how we can help.

Please do. They need help from sane people.
Our has come under attack from similar type folks and the vitriol they spew is gross. They tried to unseat our school board, but were luckily unsuccessful. But the votes they did manage to get was unnerving.
I am leaving to get a facial in a few minutes. I was going to go to the grocery store after, but remembered that that means we'd have lunch super late and since I need to leave here around 6:30 tonight, we're going to have a somewhat early dinner. So I guess I'll do the shopping tomorrow.
I am going to a fundraiser event tonight for work and I hope it's fun. I am kind of dreading it at the moment. It's a series of short films related to the work we do, followed by snacks and (cash bar) cocktails, so it sounds really nice but I'm going alone so I'm worried about the social awkwardness. Plus it's really cold today and it's in the city in a part that is not super convenient to get to, so I am just not looking forward to driving back and forth. I always get lazy about going places and then generally have a good time, so I'm sure it will be fine, but I also am not looking forward to it.
I have to do a bunch of grading this weekend too. I feel like I've been slacking on the course I'm teaching so far so I need to get my butt in gear and provide some feedback to students!

I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I have a labial cyst.
I texted my best friend who’s my midwife and was like, wtf. So now I’m soaking my girl parts today, hoping it goes away on its own. Otherwise she will lance it on Monday. I’m tempted to do it myself but won’t.

My dd (who is 11 and in 5th grade) made plans to go ice skating tomorrow afternoon with a boy, just the 2 of them. I asked her if it was a date, and she said 'I think maybe?' and giggled. She's been friends with this boy and 'liked' him for a year and he came to her birthday party with 2 other boys this past summer (although the 3 boys sat by themselves and avoided the girls for the most part), so I've met his mom, and they talk on messenger/google meet pretty often, but I'm still not quite ready for this! But dd also talks openly about how she doesn't love that some of her friends are already 'obsessed' with boys and only care about them, so I do hope her interest is age appropriate. Dh is driving her there and staying to sit and do work and 'supervise' for the 1.5 hours she will be there, so we really had no reason to say no, so mostly I'm hoping for her sake that it goes well.
