I think it's time to replace our hot water heater, judging by the river of water now flowing from it and through our garage. I want to go electric (working on getting off natural gas), and ideally tankless too. I want to put our standing freezer where the hot water tank is now.

We love ours. The only downsides are that it takes a while for the water to heat up. And if there’s multiple taps with hot water on, it impacts temperature.
When my old wate was heater started leaking, if I wanted it replaced quickly my only option was another tank. A tankless unit may require running additional piping and/or electric lines. Just something to keep in mind, since it sounds like you need an urgent replacement.

We had to get one because our tank is under the stairs and modern tanks are bigger than old ones. A new tank wouldn't fit. We have had no problems. DH cleans it once every year. I have not noticed temperature differences with multiple taps running and it heats up quickly.
Edit- it's possible ours is gas. we have a gas furnace and dryer, but electric oven and stove, so I'm not sure what the hot water heater is.
We have one and have had no issues. I do wish we had a recirculator added to it to help with the couple of minutes it can take to get the water nice and hot, but our plumber couldn't figure it out and we just gave up.
I have heard that electric tankless does not work that well (compared to gas) but I would love to hear that this is not the case. We were told this information by a couple of different plumbers.

We have had a gas tankless for almost 6 years now. The peace of mind of not having our basement flood again was worth the added cost. It has worked well for us. We are lucky that our water is decent to begin with, but we still have it serviced very 3 years. The only downside is waiting for the hot water to cycle through, but I don’t think it takes that much longer than our old one did.
Have you looked into the heat pump water heaters? If you have a gas water heater now, the rebates are great. I know it doesn’t address your question, but… my H is an electrician and he looked at the power requirements of tankless and was not interested in it. And it would be super cheap because we don’t have the expense of running the circuits.
we are converting to heat pump water heater soonish.
When we replaced our electric hot water tank 2 years ago, I also wanted tankless, but we would've had to re-wire the electrical in our house to do it, so we went with a heat pump instead, and it's been great. There are new and excellent rebates for them right now, too. Our electric bill went down by $100/month.
