Around here you have to ask (water isn't just provided) but its free and refilled if you ask. Water shortage reasons.
I was also going to guess water conservation-related.
I’m all for anything that reduces water waste. (Not to say this isn’t a drop in the bucket compared to the agricultural industry and all those stupid golf courses, but, you know. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.)
People who are rude to those in the service industry — waiters, baristas, cashiers, drive thru workers, customer service personnel. Rude customers are just the worst.

Since I am not turned on by any random people, I am also not turned off by anything random people do. Annoyed, perturbed, disturbed by actions perhaps.
Actual turn offs would fall into a different thread. Apparently.

Poor or under tipping. Massive red flag!
ETA- Snapping your fingers to get a servers attention. 🤮

#regional :)
Can you enlighten me? In which region is this not rude? I’m asking because I’ve lived in a bunch of places in the US, and a few overseas, and its been considered rude everywhere that I’ve lived. Is this a Northeast thing? I’ve never lived there, but my grandmother grew up there and would be horrified by people snapping their fingers to get a server’s attention.
I wonder what the water costs! I am all for conservation and don't mind asking for water (most places outside of fine dining make you ask anyway) but unless refills are like 10 cents, that's skimpy. Water is necessary for life. Drinking multiple glasses isn't going to contribute meaningfully to easing a shortage. That seems like an excuse to make more money.

Maybe she means the tipping thing? Like, overseas tipping is not customary, at least not at 20%.

That is the only thing I can think of.
Oh, yeah, I hope that’s what she meant!
Where I live there's almost no tipping, AND it's not uncommon for people to snap for attention. I definitely agree both are bad manners in the states. I personally don't snap, but I see it fairly frequently often accompanied with "hey." I get the German embarrassment but no one seems to mind.

Ah, fair enough, you definitely live somewhere with a culture that I’m not very familiar with!! I will cease my pearl-clutching immediately 🙂

I'd hoped would show I know it's definitely a very different culture than most on here are familiar with.
My partner has a sleep shirt that shows various hand movements (tic, intended to be funny/self deprecating, not insulting) in the country, and it has snapping for attention as one.
k3am we have a small restaurant/cafe in our town that does not serve glasses of water at all. Bottled only beverages. It’s so confusing. I was like “what? You don’t have tap water??” And the wait staff is all “yeah, no, something about … well no … it’s the, whatever”. No straight answer.
Obviously, it’s bullshit up pricing. I get it. But don’t act like there is something wrong with the water you make the ice, the food, you wash the food, wash the dishes …
When someone I've just met keeps bragging about their work position, net worth, luxury car, etc. This was especially a turn off when I was dating. I rather know you are a nice person who cleans up after their own ass. I make my own money, I don't need you to show off your money, I need you to show off your relationship skills.

I mean to be fair the wait staff likely didn't make the decision so it's not on them to give a straight answer.

If your business website has a bible verse or any sort of religious references, I will go find another option. You're a dentist Gary, I don't need to know what Galatians 5:22 means to you, I need to know if you accept Aetna not Jesus Christ.

You’d think they come up with one rather than dancing around about it. “The restaurant/owner has made the decision to only offer bottled beverages. Tap water is unavailable.”
I don’t go to businesses that openly support Republican candidates. Luckily that’s not a huge issue here in the city but it comes up when we go further afield.
I don’t go to places that don’t accept cash.
I really hate when places don’t have a website or post their info all in one place and prioritize places that do. I’m not trying to solve a mystery; I just want your menu and hours

This was the norm when I traveled to Germany a lot for work, too. I'd be dying of thirst after a crazy over-scheduled, jetlagged day and my only choices for drinks would be 150mL glasses of wine, 300mL bottles of mineral water or a 600mL beer, all close to the same price.

I don't know if this is the same everywhere in Germany, but in the 2 cities I visited, the tap water was safe to drink but tasted terrible to me. I'd be pretty annoyed if only mineral water was available, though.

We have a restaurant near me, that does not serve tap water, only $6+ dollar bottles of specialty water. The cheapest drink on the menu is hot tea, $4.50, and it comes in a tiny cup, with no hot water refills. It is a breakfast and lunch place, more cafe, than 5 star. I can’t bring myself to go back. We do not have a water shortage, and I really hate the waste of bottled water environmentally. I get it in places where the tap water isn’t safe to drink or taste bad. I thought about going and just taking my own water bottle 🤣, which I often do, other places, since nobody cares, if they don’t have to refill my glass.
Honestly, people who write things precisely like this on social media.
"Thank u 4 being an amazin hubby always!"
I hate when parents write to their kids on SM, "happy brithday johnnie, I love you so much, keep being the person you are FLY HIGH" bitch, he's three?!
