We will be visiting my ILs the first week of August, they live about 90 minutes away from Orlando. H and I are talking about possibly driving down for a day to do a water park.
Is one better than the other? Is there enough to do at one for the day or should we consider a Park Hopper to do both?

We did Typhoon Lagoon last summer and enjoyed it. We wanted to do Blizzard Beach, but it was closed for renovations. We all had a great time. Definitely look into renting a cabana. Nice to have a place out of the sun and to meet back up. They also take your food order and deliver it to you and you get special cups and drink refills. They go fast though, like sell out months in advance. The lazy river is nice, but can get crowded. The wave pool is insanely strong, like even standing far back it will knock you off your feet.
I prefer Typhoon Lagoon to Blizzard Beach, but I feel BB is better for younger kids so depends on who’s going!
Kids are 10, 20, and 21 so we have a mix! The 10 year old is nervous though, he's not ready for big drops or anything yet.
I went to Disney for the first time when I was 12 and Typhoon Lagoon is my most vivid memory from that trip. I LOVED it and I’m still not a big drops person.
I've been to both several times and I have a pretty strong preference for Blizzard Beach.
- Typhoon Lagoon has a ton of sand, so you end up having to put your stuff in the sand and walk around on sandy sidewalks all day that tear up your feet. - TL is more spread out, so a lot more walking between slides. - I'm sure this isn't a complaint most people have, but the TL wave pool is insanely strong even at the very back. I prefer to just bob in the waves, but in the TL pool you have to be very strategic about where you stand or you will absolutely get knocked over. - Theming at BB is cuter and more noticeable throughout the park. - I prefer all of the slides and pools at BB. - Bathrooms/showers are nicer and feel much cleaner at BB.
You will have fun at either, but when we have a choice we always go to BB.
We had annual passes to the water parks. I have only been to TL but my husband and kids said they still like TL better than BB. One of our best memories was when we first experienced the wave. We had heard the wave was strong but didn’t know how big. Water was calm and we go in. Then comes the wave. I’m sure our faces were priceless. Sooo much fun but be prepared.
I agree with renting a cabana or looking for a covered area. I’m sure you know, but the likelihood of having a bad thunderstorm is very high in August.
