I finally finished The One last night. It was so good, but the end ended abruptly. I HATE when that happens. I need to know exactly how it ends. Ugh!!
Now I need to find a new book. I'm thinking One True Loves (Taylor Jenkins Reid isn't Collin Hoover-ey, is she?) Or The Guncle.
I read One True Loves last week and enjoyed it. TJR is definitely a step above Colleen Hoover.
I've read 2 Colleen Hoover books in the last month to see what the hype was all about (Verity and It Ends With Us). Both read like bad fanfiction to me (and I like fanfic!). Not my jam.
I also listened to The Seven Husbands of Eleanor Hugo which I really enjoyed.
I just started listening to The Firekeepers Daughter and picked up Carrie Soto is Back from the library yesterday.
I hated, hated, hated It Ends With Us. it was absolutely terrible for so many reasons. Isn't there a prequel to that (or sequel?). I can't believe that shit is being prolonged.

Yeah, the whole thing made me uncomfortable. Including the ending. And as someone said upthread it romanticized abuse/abusers. The people were all really one dimensional (the charismatic abuser, the quirky funny best friend, the man who can do no wrong, etc).

I liked the Guncle.
I finished Verity. I didn't hate it as much as others, but I didn't like it, if that makes sense. I HATED that she used the word fuck to describe sex over and over again...it seems very middle school, like it's supposed to be so controversial.
I'm revisiting The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than the first time I tried.
I just finished The People We Keep, and I've enjoyed it. I liked that the protagonist is the same age as me.
My son and I are reading the Guts and Glory series, The American Civil War.

Okay, I started One True Loves last night and it's really good. Not Colleen Hoover-like at all! I realized on Goodreads yesterday that I've already read FOUR of her books, lol. I really don't pay enough attention to authors.

I picked up Tracy Flick Can’t Win. I haven’t thought about Election in years, so this brings up weird nostalgia (also I went to school in Omaha for my first degree).
I read the Thursday Murder Club and Lessons in Chemistry (both recommended here) and really enjoyed.
The whole First Law trilogy which if you like fantasy series is really good (though the third book felt drawn out and he’s not a happy ending kind of author).
Currently reading Blue Highways which is a memoir that is also sort of an oral history of small rural towns in the 80s and I like it a lot.
Also just started Fear Fighter which is a motivational kind of book but pretty good so far and feels applicable? And not too hammy.

I didn’t love the Guncle because I quickly get tired of reading witty quips (and it’s a lot of that). I think I’d really enjoy it as a movie but I quit the book after a few chapters.
We went to the library today, and I had to laugh at the books I brought home. Want an example of what happens when an unmedicated person with ADHD goes to the library on what I call a “crazy brain day”?
My selections are everything from “a Bollywood-style love story” to mindless comedy fiction to a true story of people searching for 28,800 ducks that fell off of a ship to neuropsychology books and a book on politics and religion. Oh! And The Art of Gathering, a book about hosting. Only 3 of my books are similar to the kinds of books most people here seem to read. I’m excited about all of them, but I’m certain I won’t read them all before they need to be returned…but I love having options depending on my mood.
Oh! And I’m in the middle of Bad Blood on Audiobook, a book about Theranos. And Tina Fey’s Bossypants.
It’s no wonder I’m always tired and/or overwhelmed!
I’ve been blowing through Colleen Hoover books. They are light and easy to read and different enough that I am enjoying them all in their own way.
Currently halfway through Maybe Someday and really loving it so far.
Have you read November 9? I liked that one. I also really liked Verity, unpopular I know, but it's my favorite of hers.
I have read Nov 9 and enjoyed it a lot. Then I moved on to Slammed and Point of Retreat.
I don’t typically read this fast, but swear I’ve gone through 5 Colleen Hoover books in the last 3-4 weeks; which is crazy fast for me. I am having surgery this coming week and have a couple on deck to ensure I have enough entertainment for my recovery.

I love having back-up comfort books. I hope you have a smooth recovery!
I just finished A Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. It was well written, however all her books are emotional reads. They deal with heavy unfair terrible life experiences. On the upside, it was my last book to read for the winter reading challenge for my local library system. It was a bingo challenge. Now I get to turn in my paper and enter 5 drawings for gift cards for stores in my city.
