I am so bad at this... but we redid the fireplace surround (and a full kitchen reno) last fall. I'm now getting around to buying new furniture. Empty LR picture and also how it looks today - sparse with our old furniture... work in progress
I bought the couch in the gray fabric. It will go along the wall on the right under the window.
My thought is the large blue chair to the left of the fireplace (looking in) and the leather chair to the right of the fire place and another one just off the end of the chaise. Thinking the rug can help tie in the colors. thoughts? too much? I want coordinated but not matchy. and also would love the rug at a lower price point (9x12)
Love the space! Do you watch tv usually in this room? That makes a difference to me on furniture placement. If you do, I would consider putting the couch where your current loveseat is so you can see the tv straight on. Maybe the teal chair under the window and the two leather chairs flanking the fireplace. The blue chair looks large so I think it might overtake the fireplace if you put it in the corner where the current chair is.

What size is the room/ area the furniture will be in? It seems like too much furniture for that space based on pix and a 9x12 rug looks too big again based on pix.

orval - yes, we do watch TV here - but not all the time - we have a great room in the basement we use mostly. But if DS is on the xbox down there - we watch in this room.
maudefindlay, the room is 13.5' wide and 19' long - it's long and narrow. not sure if that changes your thoughts.
I would get the couch in first and then decided what size rug - you make a good point on maybe too much furniture.

Beautiful room! It's hard to tell from the photo how much room would be between the couch and the built-ins. But I'm not sure I'd do a chair there. Seems like it would be too much. I'd probably do an end table with a lamp in that corner.

I think getting the furniture in first before a rug is a good plan. With the room opening you leave a walkway and therefore don't use the entire room for living space.
Great job! Everything looks great. Did you build the built ins or hire a carpenter?
Thanks! the built ins were always there - but the same color wood as the rest of the surrounding.. all we did was paint them. the person who owned the house before us built them I believe.
