Happy Friday! What have you been reading this week? Any reviews/ratings/recommendations?
QOTW: If you could have one specific drink for free for the rest of your life instantaneously whenever you wanted it, but only you could drink it (so you can't share it with anyone else) what would you pick?
Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger, 3*. I liked it until the ending.
The Little Wartime Library by Kate Thompson, DNF. It was too chick lit for my taste
I'm currently reading The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron.
Qotw: That's tough. Something alcoholic seems like the best choice, but I don't drink very often because I only like the high sugar content alcoholic drinks. I'm trying to give up my Bai habit so I don't want to say Bai. If I drink anything other than water it's usually Bai.
Finished The Librarian Spy. 4* Two stories, one in Lisbon and the other in Lyon during WW2 which then connect. I am interested in reading more about what transpired in Portugal, a “neutral” country. I liked that the leading characters were women. One of the other characters in Lyon was my favorite. It’s not the easiest read, especially knowing that there were so many who went through it in real life, having unimaginable strength and courage.
QOTW: there’s not much I can drink without heartburn but in an ideal world, Pina Colada
I’m reading The Christie Affair and listening to the Girl From Guernica. I was also listening to How the Light Fets in and my mom and I share the axis 360 account and she returned it! Now I’m back on the waiting list. So annoyed about it but an easy mistake.
I've been reading A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon. The Priory of the Orange Tree was my favorite book of 2019 so I was really excited to get this the day it came out. It's a little slow to get started but I am enjoying it.
QOTW: Cold brew coffee. It would be really nice to have that first thing in the morning with little effort on my part.
The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn - this is a sprawling novel, much of which I loved. I wish the author had stuck with the theater and the children, and made a story out of the rich portrait she created of their world, instead of veering off into a World War 2 spy story. Still, overall it was an absorbing 4 out of 5 stars.
Pure Color by Sheila Heti - I love the other books of hers that I've read: Motherhood; How Should a Person Be; and Women in Clothes. But this one, oy. It reads like my journal after I've had one too many CBD gummies. 2/5
Now I'm reading Matt Haig's The Comfort Book and I'm not going to rate it, because it's so sweet, I hate to knock it, but it's sort of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" simple. I might give it to my preteen.
QOTW: exactly what tacokick said. Or maybe a lemon drop martini.

Finished Pride and Protest and Ten Thousand Stitches. The constant sex in Pride and Protest really took away from what would have been a great story without it. And I really enjoyed Ten Thousand Stitches - more than the first book in the series.
Started reading Antigoddess in which the Olympian gods, who still exist in modern times, are at war.
Started listening to The Ghost Bride, which I am loving. It's about a girl who is asked to marry the recently deceased child of a family friend. She doesn't want to, having fallen in love with the cousin of the dead guy. But the dead guy keeps haunting her and she travels to the afterlife, trying to discover the truth of his death, her family's history, and possibly the fate of the living world.
QOTW: If you could have one specific drink for free for the rest of your life instantaneously whenever you wanted it, but only you could drink it (so you can't share it with anyone else) what would you pick? Maybe fresh squeezed lemonade?
