Alicia Day, 34, of New York City, was detained by Russian police while walking her pet baby cow — Dr. Calf — on Moscow's Red Square last month.
Coming at a time when Russian authorities have sentenced several Americans to lengthy prison terms over seemingly minor infractions, the obvious question: What was she thinking?
"Red Square is so beautiful. And I would love to spend some time there with a beloved animal. So that's what I did," she says with a knowing smile when asked by NPR before boarding a flight for Turkey.
After what happened to Brittany Griner I can't imagine why you would do this. Frankly, she's lucky she only spent 13 days in jail. Also, she was "surprised to be detained"? The State Dept. has literally warned Americans that there's a high risk of being unlawfully detained if they travel to Russia. I know making the news was her goal, but talk about stupid.
ETA: read the article (well, skimmed). Good for this person to find a way to get free publicity. I wonder if she recognizes how she's using the animals for fame 🤔 🙄

The cow is apparently at a "government rehabilitation farm." Day was banned from visiting Russia for 40 years, but is trying to appeal so she can visit Dr. Calf, and also visit one of her former Russian prison guards who is now her new boyfriend.

The whole story was a wild ride.
given everything going on in that part of the world, this feels so silly to me.
ETA: I don't mean you're silly for posting it (in case that wasn't clear). And I feel bad for the calf 😔
I can't imagine the poor state department employee who got this call. Honestly I hope she gets a travel ban so she doesn't do something stupid somewhere else. How do you even get a cow to Russia?
She also made the "news" for keeping a rescue pig in a tiny London flat (her landlord kicked her out) and doing the same damned thing with a different pig in Poland. She's a fucking idiot and so are the people who keep giving her farm animals.
Is this woman just living off a trust fund or something? How does she have money to just randomly live in Europe as an adult and do these kinds of expensive stunts like hiring a car to drive the animal 600 miles to Moscow? Her timeline doesn't seem to lend itself to a longterm job history over there.
She's certainly got the notoriety angle figured out by using her American passport to its fullest.
