Is there any way to update my DR table? I used to like it 10 years ago. I like the distressed texture but am now leaning toward mid-century modern. I'm pining over a mid-century one from West Elm but it's not in the budget right now.
Is there any way to update the table and change out the chairs for a re-fresh? The only thing I can think of is changing out the chairs with black Windsor chairs.

I agree swapping the legs would go a long way. I don't know if that's easily done, though. I certainly couldn't do it with my mcm (original, passed down) table. It's all angles and custom bolts.
I have a table similar to yours, but it is oval. I swapped out the chairs for something more modern and I think it looks fine. I like a mix of styles in a house. If you google traditional table and mid century chairs, you will get lots of ideas.
My dining table is a similar color but a trestle table. Anyhow,I like your table but I think new chairs would be great. I have the Ballard Dayna Chair with my table and I think it all looks really nice but definitely not MCM. I think they'd be pretty with your rug though.

I can't do hairpin legs bc the table is a beast, plus I don't care for the look of hairpin legs personally. The only color chairs I could mix is black and then it would be even darker. I thought about chair covers but I hate chair covers. SO just gonna live with it for now and eventually get a new table from Article or West Elm that I've got my eye on.

My niece is a MCM fan. She bought a beautiful teak gateleg for her old house that doesn't really work in her new one; so now my mom has it in her kitchen and my niece scoured FB Marketplace and MaxSold for a replacement. She ended up with a gorgeous authentic walnut set for about $500 after buying and selling one she didn't like as well for a profit. The new one even matches the living room my parents bought her 8 years ago at a yard sale when they lived in FL.
For furniture shopping for stuff like tables, shelves and desks, I periodically peruse FB Marketplace to see what others are trying to sell that could work in my house without having to pay retail. Shoppers generally don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for furniture they have to move themselves so the sellers end up listing stuff for fairly cheap. Just an idea, you never know if the item you are eyeing could pop up on there. I search for specific pieces all the time.
The hairpin legs would bug me too if I decided I was over it.
I feel like updating the table and getting new chairs will cost almost as much as a new set. I think I’d put that money toward saving up for a new set instead. Can you link the set you like from West Elm? Maybe someone know of a less expensive version elsewhere.
