We just recently got a new washer/dryer set and I am trying to figure out how to utilize the space I have now. This is our main entryway through the garage and it is visible basically all the time. I'd like it to be prettier but also it needs to work smarter/harder.
Things that I like: Storage unit with hanging area Utility sink, even if it is ugly
Things that I dislike about it currently: Spaces between the washer and dryer and also the dryer and storage unit because it's unusable so wasteful Stuff gets piled on the dryer
The storage unit is probably working as hard as it can, so not necessarily looking to switch that up. But this room houses all my cleaning and laundry supplies plus some overflow pantry and dog treats and I'm struggling with how to lay it out. Previously I had a front loading washer and dryer on pedestals so all of those drawers are gone.
If this was your space, what stands out as a good option? I can probably move the dryer left or right to have one "bigger" space vs two smaller and less useable spaces. But would you put a shelf on top of the dryer, even knowing it may only be 12-18" deep because of the walkway space necessary? Or a slim drawer unit to hold my laundry stuff? Something else?

I think I'd get a slim rolling shelving unit to put between the washer and dryer for laundry detergent, etc. Is replacing the two shelves above the utility sick with a white cabinet a possibility? I don't see room for a shelf above the dryer.
I'd replace the utility sink with one that had a base cabinet so you could store your laundry supplies there, and then smush everything together to hopefully open up space for additional lower shelves. I'd also look into upper cabinets next to the window, or longer shelves, so that you could store more up there. You have a window so this may not work but I put a rod above my washer/dryer to hang dry clothes.

I think making it look like a more cohesive wall of storage would be nice. Like run a white shelf parallel with the top of the coat piece, put some nice decorative baskets above. hang a Roman shade above the window, and do double upper cabinets where you have the other shelves. A plug in under cabinet light would probably be helpful too. Ditto using a thin pull out or other shelf around the washed dryer to fill the gaps. I suspect having the w/d together would look best? But maybe not. You could just do a curtain to hide the base of the utility skunk for a quick fix.
Otherwise I would put drawers under each so the washer is even with the window and both plugs are hidden. I would also replace the shelving on the left with a big white cabinet -- it would look cleaner and hold a ton more. You could probably repurpose those shelves onto other walls but that's a big space that's mostly wasted.
I definitely cannot raise the washer at all. This thing is so big (I am 5'9") and I can barely reach the bottom on my tip toes.
Base cabinet utility sink is definitely on my radar for extra storage. But we have a lot of plumbing under there from the sink, washer, and dryer so not sure how much space would actually be free for laundry supplies. And we have plumbing pipes running from the right, down the middle, and into the left wall, so we would need to hack the crap out of the cabinet to get it in place. But I have that jotted down.
We used to have a white cabinet where the open shelving is, but it didn't fit anything deep or tall because it was so shallow. May look into that idea so it's all closed off. And I love the idea of a curtain or roman shade. I like the light coming in, but just having the fabric there would make it less stark.
