The Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA), or Public Act 453 of 1976, prohibits discrimination in Michigan on the basis of "religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status, or marital status" in employment, housing, education, and access to public accommodations.[1] Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity were added to the law on March 16 2023.[2] en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott-Larsen_Civil_Rights_Act

I needed to see this after the absolute clusterfuck in Kentucky today. My heart is hurting. After this year there will be “safe states” and “unsafe states” and very little in between. Terrifying.

And Georgia today, too. 😔
Yup. And basically at least one state everywhere, every day, for months and months, with more to go. I have no more tears.

I'm assuming you have, but you heard last week's MN news, correct?

Of course. It’s little slivers. Places we can move to assuming (Lolsob) SCOTUS doesn’t totally fuck it up.
This is great news. I do worry though. I know it’s a couple years off but Michigan is a true swing state. If the next governor and/congress is republican are they just going to reverse it?

I’m so GD pissed at my state legislators. There are so many people in the GA that have personal stories, that SHARED these stories on the House and Senate floors, about how this will affect them and their loved ones, and their colleagues just have no fucking compassion. I love my state, but I don’t know how we come back from this. Maybe people will pay attention come election time? But I’m not optimistic.

I’ve watched nearly every hearing in nearly every state that has passed one of these laws and it’s the same story. Opposition is overwhelming and powerful and proponents don’t have anything except lies and nonsense and a few people from out of state who told the sponsors what to say. It’s sickening.

That’s true of anything though. We have to take these victories and build on them and reward these legislators with our votes and rally others to do the same.
