I have no clue if they're tacky or whatever, but I can't keep real plants alive so I have two fake plants in my house. I say do what makes you happy and fill the spot!

I have a few and they make me happy so that's all I care about. There's definitely a range of quality and I can't tell the difference with the higher quality ones.
I think they’re fine! I had a couple of spots I wanted to add a fake tree but the ones I liked ended up being super pricey so I never got any 🤷♀️ I think the key is to pay a bit more if necessary to get good quality ones.
I have a couple small fake plants in dark corners. I just look for good fakes that don’t look plastic-y. I have two from Target and one is actually from Aldi. I’d avoid anything with flowers because I feel like those are easier to spot as fakes.
They have been totally coming back in style, and they look way better than they used to look. I don’t have any problem with them as long as it’s not excessive! No fake jungles!
My friend has 3-4 in her house and I didn’t even know they were fake so I’d say go for it! (They’ve really improved the quality of them in the last few years)
My BFF gay male friend is hopeless with plants but has several large, fake ones in his fabulously-decorated home, so I’m thinking they’re not considered tacky at all.
I don't have fake plants. (To me, it makes about as much sense as a plastic pet or a very realistic baby doll. Keeping it alive and watching it grow is half the point *for me*)
But I'm sure I have things you wouldn't choose.
Just don't get hung up on whether it always passes for real, lol.
I don't mind a fake plant in someone else's home. I do find it strange if they actively pretend it's alive. The hostess of my bridal shower went on and on about how amazing it was her orchid "just happens to be in bloom right now." The "plant" was pretty, and was great both in person and in the photos. But it wasn't "blooming." It was super awkward. lol.
I have several fake succulents that I think look really realistic - I've actually had people compliment them, lol. I kept killing the ones I'd buy so they have been a good alternative.
I have varying luck with other plants (I killed two snake plants so... mostly bad luck, lol) so I may have to consider going the fake route in the future. I love the look of plants but they aren't so cute when they are all half dead.
I'm all for it. I have pets so that limits the plants I can have, plus the monster chews on everything (fake plants too, sometimes...sigh...). And we have limited light so, it's just not worth it.
I spent a bit on this one but think it was worth every penny:
Someone gifted my sister a plant years ago when they moved and couldn't take it with her. She's a notorious plant killer and was amazed that she managed to keep it alive. It was two years before that friend came back to visit and let her know it was fake. So I'd say.. quality fake plants are out there. We have some smaller fake succulents from Crate & Barrel that I love. I also have some not so quality fake succulents from Amazon that are definitely not nearly as realistic.

I'm so confused. Was she watering this fake plant for two years?!
RockNVoll, yep. Religiously watered it every few days until she found out. I can't help but chuckle every time I think about it. My sister.. the SMART one.. watering a fake plant. I die.

She never noticed it didn’t grow or change?? Hahaha

Some can take this as evidence the plant was hyperrealistic. I take is as an explanation for why she killed every other plant she owned. She literally can't tell what a plant is, even when up close/touching/watering it for a year.

Not gonna lie, all I would notice is that it hadn’t died yet and I would be very proud of that lol! Pretty sure I could even manage to somehow kill a fake plant…

I like to think I would totally notice if it wasn't in real dirt or wasn't absorbing water. I totally wouldn't notice if the plant was fake or real though. I kill everything, even succulents and outdoor plants that are supposed to be no maintenance.
