So far only confirmed via her twitter, but what the actual fuck. (Reminder, she's the scientist who blew the whistle regarding FL hiding covid numbers.)
"DeSantis tried to destroy my reputation, undermine my credentials and work, intimidate me by ordering an armed raid on my home, silence me by jailing me, and threaten me with prison for refusing to drop my whistleblower case. He failed every time.
It's been three weeks since we filed our lawsuit against the state.
Last night, they arrested my son for non- threatening snapchat memes. The officer said it was the state's call.
That corrupt, fascist pig is about to find out that the runway people gave him to defame and attack me isn't there when you kidnap and charge 13 year old autistic kids whose parents happen to be your 'worst nightmare' with felony threats of terrorism for sharing snapchat memes.
I have been through this media circus before. I'm not the 30-year-old naive scientist that I was when this all started.
I'm going to take every ounce of pain, fear and helplessness I'm feeling right now into saving my son and making sure you never escape what you've done."
Wow. I don’t how these things are typically handled, but that Pensacola article does make it seem like she’s trying to paint her son in a far more innocent light than what may be true. I understand trying to get ahead of the story but she may have caused more damage than necessary here. BUT I also know nothing about that news site, so it could be owned by a DeSantis supporter and be total bullshit.
Both situations suck and it’s awful we live in a world where they both exist.

Pensacola News Journal is an old school print newspaper that has been around for decades. I’m not aware of any bias of the owners or writers, but it’s a VERY deep red area so it wouldn’t surprise me. I used to live in the area, and while I wasn’t a regular PNJ reader or subscriber, I consumed a decent amount of their local content, and none of it seemed biased.
The area that the middle school is in, Navarre/Gulf Breeze, was a hotbed of Trumpism, and probably a shitload of DeSantis supporters there. I’m not sure I’d automatically believe school teachers or administrators in that area to treat the son of an outspoken De Santis opponent fairly. I’d imagine more bias in the school and law enforcement than the reporting source, knowing that area.
Rebekah Jones' son arrested in Florida after allegedly threating to shoot up school, stab students
On Twitter, Jones tweeted that the "anonymous" tip was a kid posing as a cousin of one of the friends who was in the Snapchat group. This kid took chats from the group chat (or whatever) and sent them to the police. Jones is alleging that her son was setup.

Yeah, my in-laws worked in Santa Rosa schools and nothing would surprise me here. The kid may be a legitimate threat, the arrest could be politically motivated, or both. Honestly, I’m surprised law enforcement would actually arrest any kid threatening violence at school. It seems like that NEVER happens.
Anyway, FIL ran for local office in Santa Rosa around 10 years ago and I attended the candidate showcase/debate night and it was WILD. I was never surprised that this district would elect someone like Gaetz.
That’s what rings alarm bells for me. Arrested for terrorism is not my recollection of how most of these social media school threats are handled. It all just seems a little too pat when you’re talking about potential retaliation from someone who is fixing to be the next dictator.
Here's what stood out to me in the article: "According to Jones, a threat assessment was completed in which both local police and the school signed off on the messages not being a threat. Two weeks later, Jones says her son was then arrested. When Jones asked the officers who ordered the arrest, she says an officer told her 'it was the state.'”
If police and the school reviewed the messages and didn't consider it a threat, why is the state ordering her son's arrest? And how often does the state overrule schools and local police to arrest children who post similar content in group threads with friends?
Gee, it almost seems like an intimidation tactic by the state to prove a point. Fuckers.
I admit I didn’t read the article well, just skimmed, but is her some being held in a facility? Or was he just emotionally traumatized by arrest & processing, then released home?

An hour or so ago, she posted on Twitter that he's home.
According to the Miami Herald, the 13-year-old posted memes on Snapchat but the threats were posted by a different username. Authorities redacted that information in the warrant they circulated. Check out the Miami Herald article.
An unredacted version of the warrant, obtained by the Herald, shows the threatening messages were sent by a username that was different than the one Jones’ son used to send the memes. The document does not say how authorities determined both usernames are linked to the same account. The redacted version circulated by authorities does not reveal that there were two different usernames involved.
Obviously people can have more than one username (we know all about that on GBCN). But why redact it? Jones says another kid sent the threats, not her son.
I can't imagine the police would arrest a THIRTEEN year old for this unless they had a way to know both usernames came from the same address. I mean they have to know they'd be'd sued the heck out of otherwise, they'd know the optics would be terrible. I'm guessing the PD has a department that can trace IP addresses.

It depends on the ap and if they release that information. It's not very straightforward.
