Hope everyone had a great week!
Need to get back on track and many of these posts are helpful for me so.
W: sold a couple things on fb for like 150 W: was able to put 150 into savings..haven't been able to do that in a fee weeks L: groceries. Tried shopping sales but jeesh.
W: Officially sold one of my horses this week after a 3 month trial. Money is going towards our 0% ccs to pay them off early. W: DH worked out of town all week so I was able to drive his car and save $$$ on gas for the week. L: Allowing DH and DSs to go food shopping last weekend by themselves...good bye $$$.
W: I had a GC for part of my hair cut with my regular stylist. W: Picked up prescriptions this week that were $0. I've reached my max OOP, so all healthcare the rest of the year will cost me $0! The max OOP is put into my FSA every year since I know I'll reach it. PPO plans do pay off if you have significant medical issues. W/L: I bought a filing cabinet and 2 shoe racks on the Wayfair sale. My filing cabinet drawer won't close b/c the front of it is falling off (wood veneer front that has parted ways with the rest of the unit--not fixable). So, sort of needed. L: My washer is on its way out according to the repair tech. It needs new bearings that would be $650. The washing machine is 7 years old and cost $400. A Speed Queen may be in my future this summer. The good news is that he said it won't die tomorrow. $97 for the service call. Ouch!
Win - I hit $30k saved which was my big saving goal for the year. Win - I wanted to save $$ for summer vacations, but I don’t think I’ll need that much after all. L- My car needs a 120k service so I’m sure it will be $$$
Win - I found a refrigerator for the garage that I think was on accidental markdown for $399.91. I bought it and it was delivered, and it’s lovely. I just checked and It’s back up to $899 on the website now. I also sold the chest freezer it’s replacing $100 so it was only a net $300.
Loss - I’ve starting walking/trying to run a bit and realized I have a gait issue with my foot. I’ve been using whatever athletic shoes I get at Costco and I think that’s part of the issue. So I had to take my old lady feet to the real shoe store and get fitted. $140 for a pair of walking shoes.
Loss - the AC at our rental was having issues last summer but they seemed to fix it. The tenants just turned it back on for the first time and it died again. The system is probably 20 years old so I’m hoping for a repair but preparing for a total replacement. That’ll run me at least $12k.

On the shoes...long run could save you in medical bills.. on your feet and just being healthy in general.. total long term win!

I paid it! Lol. And I picked the shoes that felt the best without asking the price, specifically for that reason.
But I’m used to paying like $27.99 at Costco for whatever adidas they have at the moment. Before today, I think the most expensive shoes I’ve purchased were $60 crocs from Disneyland.
jewel Every 500-600 miles you'll want to buy a new pair. Running/walking shoes get worn out and stop providing proper support after a while. Now that you know what you wear, you can buy them at the LRS (local running store) or online.

W: TBD once our money market interest is deposited May 1. We still have most of our bonus money in our money market account for now, but with the higher interest rates, I'm hoping for $30-$40 in interest for the month of April. Update: Our regular money market had about $27 deposited, our e-fund money market had about $4 deposited and our 6-month CD had about $7 deposited. So the main money market earned a little less than what I had expected, but all interest in total it was close to $40. W: The gas stations by our house seem to be the lowest in the area at the moment (by 15-20 cents a gallon), so DH and I have been topping off every few days (we've been driving a lot for the kids' sports and activities this week) to make the most of it while it's the best price in the area. W: I'm participating a focus group for my employer this week and they're giving participants each a $75 Visa gift card (for a one hour commitment)!
L: Groceries, story of all of our lives right now. New L: We had to take our dog to the vet, so that was $150 for the appointment plus antibiotics. Due to the recurrent and types of issues he's having, the vet recommended doing a surgical biopsy to determine if he has an autoimmune disorder. We scheduled that test for next week, and it's $700-800. Once we have the results and diagnosis, then we'll find out about treatment options. I have been spiraling about this since yesterday, thinking that we may not be able to afford treatment, and even if we can, finding through googling that some of the treatments have such terrible side effects that he would still have a poor quality of life, so we may have to make and end-of-life decision. He only just turned 3 years old in March.
W:sold some crap from our garage for like $125 L: got a car loan for a new (used) car for DH. We haven't had a car payment in about 5 years. I do not enjoy it. Plan is to pay it off in a year. Did you know used car rates when your credit is 800+ is 7.5%. Good grief!

That’s good to know! Makes sense, but I never would have thought about it.
To bring my running shoe saga back home to MM, I went to the Nike outlet this weekend. They had a ton of clearance shoes that were marked down, then 30% off, then 20% off all shoes in the store, then I had an app coupon for 15% off. I bought a couple pairs that my H wanted, bought ahead for my kids, and several pairs of actually running shoes for myself (maybe not as good as my first pair, but definitely better than my others and good for walking the kids to and from school). I ended up paying around $330 for 11 pairs of shoes, which was incredible. So now I feel ok about paying $140 for the original pair, lol.
Win: finally moving our way too much cash out of checking earning 0% to a savings acct making 4.75% I know I could do better with it but baby steps.
Win: we had bought a “come back” voucher from the resort we visited last summer in Cancun. It was $300 plus we’d pay the rest when we booked. It was looking like we couldn’t find time to use it before it expired and I was ready to eat the $300. But this weekend I found someone on Facebook who wanted to buy one. I took a risk transferring it to him and requesting Venmo payment (either way I was going to be out $300 so may as well take the risk. Well he came through and paid so we ended up not losing any money.
Loss: Child complained of ear pain but not until 7pm so our only option was rushing to urgent care if we wanted to start treating ASAP. $194 to wait 2 hours and be seen by the doctor for 3 minutes but at least we got the meds started that night.

We're in the middle of our bathroom renovation, and on the bright side it's so damn small that I can't really indulge much! I also ordered way too much tile for the shower floor so I'll be able to return probably 1/3 of it.
Otherwise, my mom had a fall and I had to make some emergency trips by train which were kind of pricey. On the way back though my train was delayed and I found out if you go to the ticket counter they can rebook you on a more expensive train for no charge so that was nice!
That was all the excitement around here, which was plenty for one week. Hoping for a more mellow week to come!

We’re at the end of our bathroom renovation, and the number of random issues we have encountered is astounding! In addition to the dust everywhere. Worth it though!
We found so many pipe leaks that we’re going to update plumbing and some wall tile in the other full bathroom, to make sure we don’t have any other surprises. That’s fun and costly at the same time… but I might try to budget this one a little better!
W: I've been really good about meal planning and using what we have - so less food waste, healthier meals, lower food costs. Staying out of Costco helps but the prices are so high it's keeping me from splurging anyway.
L: madringal I hear ya - our HELOC rate ticked up to 7%. We're chunking it down but it's depressing, largely b/c I don't know what this means for my next renovation. We managed to lock in a 4.9% rate for DH's new car in March but we had to buy an upholstery service/warranty or something to get it. We too have not had a car payment in ~8 years, blech. But DH is over the moon re his new car, so we feel good about the purchase.
re the reno, I'm starting to investigate energy credits, and I'm hoping there are some low interest loans available from the state or local govt for efficiency improvements or something (we might do a heat pump).
W: Put $10k in a 3 month CD at 5%. It’s not like I’m going to earn that much interest, but it’s better than the 0% I was getting.
W: unexpectedly got back $232 of the five figure amount I sent to the IRS.
W: finally got around to figuring out how (logistically) to invest my HSA
L: Got our CPA’s bill. $1325. Well worth it but ouch.
Can I ask where? I am bummed I missed the Capital One 5% CD. I've never invested in CDs but I have some money making 0.02% that I shoudl do something with. I already put some into a HYSA at 4%, which is pretty good!

W: Sold our old patio dining set for $350. L: Spending twice that on a new, smaller set. W: We put DD's money into a 13 month CD at 5%. She won't need it for years, but I don't want to invest it. L: Blackpink is coming back to our area and we are surprising DD with tickets. They were... a lot. Hopefully worth it.

I bought a brokered CD thru Vanguard. It’s a type of CD that you buy thru an investment account. It’s my first one. I’d never heard of them until recently.

There are quite a few HYSAs at 4-4.25% or so, and most of those same banks have a 5%+ CD rate. I have a HYSA at synchrony right now, which is at 4.15% and their CDs are 5%. My local credit union has the same rate for a CD. If you check bank rate, you can sort by % but I think there are plenty of options at 5% right now.
I have another win! I ordered a mirror and it came damaged. I chatted with the company and was hoping for a discount for me to keep it. They refunded me 100%. I fixed the spot the best I could with a wood-like pen, and it was free.
Win: after 5 years of saving and hating my kitchen, we are doing a mini remodel! New counters, lower cabinets, sink, painting and flooring. Oh and we are also installing a range hood (we currently don’t have one). I am beyond excited!
Loss: DH is changing jobs and potentially losing some income so I’m a bit unsure what our monthly budget will look like, but most likely we just lose most of our travel savings
