Even though it's way too early, I was poking around with flights for next spring break and Delta had a crazy sale (24,000 miles!) so I booked flights into Cancun. Now I'm trying to figure out if staying in Cancun of Riviera Maya makes more sense for our family. Kids will be 3 and 7. We tend to like more adventure-focused activities but recognize that we're limited to adventures a 3 year old can do. Any resort recommendations? It doesn't have to be an AI as long as it's easy to get food close but a good kids pool is a must. My co-worker just raved about Xcaret but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost with the kids ages. A kids club would be nice but it seems like most wouldn't work for the little guy.

I LOVED Xcaret, it was an amazing day! It is a little spendy, but so worthwhile.
Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancun and might be an option as well, and they have Garaffon Park which is a scaled-down version of Xcaret. But the island is sleepy and lovely. You can rent scooters and cross the island in less than an hour. It's a 20 minute ferry from Cancun.
We really liked the Iberostar Paraiso properties in Riviera Maya when we had little kids (1.5 and 4.5). There are 3 together, Maya, Lindo and another one, at various price points. And you can go between them for the pools, restaurants, etc.
