I finished The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly — not my usual kind of book, but a nice not-too-taxing read for a busy time. Now starting The Half Moon by Mary Beth Keane.
QOTW: I teach, so finals week starts summer for me. It’s supposed to be hot here next week too, so that will definitely help it feel like real summer.
I have read bits and pieces of Someday Maybe, In the Lives of Robots, and Chain Gang All Stars. I seem to be in a slump, so I might do a random thriller to get me through a book today and then go back to one of those. They all seem good, I just need something fast-paced and mindless after a long week, I think.
QOTW: My kids get out of school the Friday before Memorial Day so I consider Memorial Day Weekend the start of summer.
Like krystee, I was in a bit of a slump so grabbed something random. It was "Sharp Objects" and did the job although major trigger warning for self-harm.
The book before that was The Girls who Went Away, it was good but heavy, which is probably why I couldn't get into the next couple deeper reads that popped up in Libby.
Currently into Reservation Blues, it's very much not my usual but is based in my home state so I'm enjoying it.
QOTW: Summer starts on the first day that's hot enough to go swimming in a lake. This year it was early, and it's been great.
I read The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. It lost me a bit in the middle but I think it tied together well eventually. There were a few things I didn't like about the ending but overall it was a good book.
QOTW: We open my family's summer cottage Memorial Day so that's the start for me.
Just finished Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. It was great! I didn't love it at the beginning; it seemed too cliched. But it ended up being pretty inspiring. I'm excited for the Netflix movie. Brie Larson seems like perfect casting to me!
Now I'm reading I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai. So far, so good.
QOTW: Here in Portland, Maine, summer begins this weekend. Even two weeks ago, it was fairly quiet. Now we are overrun with tourists.

I just finished A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2). I thought the first was good, but all the reviews said #2 was better. It DEFINITELY was. If you stopped after the first book, read the second! No shame, I absolutely loved it. I finished it last night and promptly picked up the third 😂 I'm officially obsessed.
I'm also listening to Lessons in Chemistry again, my library loan expired and I had to wait forever to get it back!
QOTW: Probably when school is out. Even when I didn't have kids, that's when it felt like summer to me!

Finished "The Mermaid" which I really liked.
Read Thirsty Mermaids which is a graphic novel about mermaids who get stuck on land after searching for alcohol.
Currently listening to A Chorus Rises which is the sequel to A Song Below Water. The villain in the first is the main character in this one.
QOTW: What do you consider the start of summer? Memorial day, the solstice, or something else? I like the symmetry of dividing seasons by solstices/equinoxes so I go with the summer solstice.
