First I read Where They Lie by Joe Hart. The story was fairly good but nothing particularly special. There were a few spots where I felt like it needed better editing, and I rarely notice this. There were also a few weird things related to alcohol that just sounded off. Like the character had a bad day and went home and had *gasp* two glasses of wine and then another character ordered a vodka tonic "on the rocks." Is there any other kind of vodka tonic? No idea why those things stuck out to me but they did!
Next up was The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher. This was great and appropriately creepy! She's fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I really like her writing style even across different types of books.
Now I am reading Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau. I really only picked this up because it's set in Baltimore, where I live. She sure manages to name drop local places and stores frequently. The story is told from the perspective of a naïve 14-year old and it really comes through. So much so that the main character is unrelatable and kind of annoying! I'm enjoying it for the most part though.
QOTW: I use my signal every damn time and will judge the crap out of anyone who doesn't!
I finished You Are Here by Karin Lin-Greenberg, which I really enjoyed — I’m surprised it’s not getting more buzz. Also read Playing It Safe by Ashley Weaver, which was an enjoyable installment in the series. Now reading Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly — police procedural/mystery sounded good for the weekend.
QOTW: Turn signals always! I was behind several people today who follow the break/move first, signal later policy, which makes me crazy. It’s a signal, not an after-the-fact!
I finished The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki, 3* (the beginning and a section in the middle were interesting, otherwise it was repetitive and dull).
I am currently reading Stateless by Elizabeth Wein.
QOTW: I use my turn signal. You're asking to get hit if you don't. This is the worst place for horrible drivers I have ever lived and I lived in Los Angeles for a while. I wish the lack of turn signals were the worst of these people's offenses.
Currently reading The Circus Train. It's interesting! Also just finished listening to Lessons in Chemistry and I really loved it!
QOTW: I use my signal pretty much all the time. Timing for merging depends on traffic. I usually start signaling as I start cutting over unless there's a car close or something. I have my car set to blink 5 times if I don't push it all the way, which is usually perfect for getting mostly in the lane before it stops. People that don't signal drive me nuts in most situations.
I finished Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld. It was light and I breezed through it. It got me out of a drought with reading so that was good. I appreciated that the main characters were in mid-life rather than fresh twenty-somethings, but some of the soul baring felt cringy.
I’m currently reading the memoir Smoke Gets In Your Eyes & Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty. Interesting so far.
QOTW: I am big on turn signals unless there is no one else around me.

Finished Say More About That and Lifelines. Both were fine, but I enjoyed Lifelines more because I'm such a "healthcare is a right" nerd.
Started reading Not that Kind of Ever After which is a romcom about a woman who decides her life is "the wrong fairytale" and she tries to put herself in the right one. The main character is kind of obnoxious so I can't decide if I like it or not yet.
Started listening to Here for the Drama about a playwright's assistant who accompanies her boss to London and hooks up with her boss's nephew. I'm enjoying that one more.
QOTW: If you drive, what's your turn signal MO? Dedicated signal user? Break or change lanes first, signal after? Signals are for suckers? Always signal. That's what they're there for!
