bimbi284 I love PYREX, the old kind, too. The older the better. When I needed 2 more glass pie plates for quiche, I shopped second hand stores rather than buy new.
Did you know you can buy replacement lids? It was a good day when I saw those for sale. (ETA - I see this has been covered)
I'm willing to bet millenials inherited a ton of pyrex from grandparents and parents. Those generations are downsizing or passing away. Meanwhile younger generations aren't living in such large spaces. I like my instant pot but it does take up a lot of space. My pyrex is from my parents, who had extra.
This is also where I can say I use my Pyrex regularly but have never operated the Instant Pot. Even got a cook book and everything but I’m somehow afraid of it. But I did my part and bought 2 of them, one for me and one for my mom so this Gen X did not kill them.

I didn't know you could buy replacement covers for Pyrex.. I need to replace a couple that are warped or ripped!
I have a crock pot branded pressure cooker, so it's not IP brand, but we use it fairly often. I love making rice and pulled pork in it especially! I'm a little surprised these two brands aren't doing as well as I thought (well, not that I've given it much thought).

I never made friends with my Instant Pot. The only thing I use it for is cooking frozen chicken. But I hate the occasional times I open the lid and the meat is still raw
This makes me really sad for Pyrex. I grew up close to Corning, NY where Corning Inc. and the Pyrex brand originated. Every household I knew had "slightly imperfect Corningware" that was given away. Everyone had connections and could get the cast offs for free or very very cheap.
When I got married I made a list of the kitchenware I wanted, purely from nostalgia, and my parents were able to pick it up at yard sales and flea markets for a few bucks. The multicoloured mixing bowl set is my favourite because every single house I knew had it.

Wait, pyrex is killed? I know I live under a rock and outside us, but I just bought another 2c measure since mine are in storage 10k miles away. It was very easy to find on an island where nothing is easy to find. I'd vaguely seen something about them cracking but didn't bother to watch since I assumed it was people doing something stupid
Same with Corelle. Both are very advertised in the duty free shops that literally have buses of tourists coming from the mainland, same country. They come for booze, chocolate, and dishware.
If the us market has dried up the international certainly has not. I'm not sure I'd ever seen a 16 piece casserole set, but I can get many varieties of it here
I need to buy another set of corelle then. They are they best dishes we have while all the others break over time they hold up and are perfectly lightweight!

@@ I kind of hate Corelle. I always thought it was not easy to break (that's how I remembered my grandma's set), so I got a set to use instead of ugly plastic "kid" dishes. Half the set broke inside of six months, meanwhile my regular plates (regular ceramic, I guess - nothing special) are still going strong after twenty years. And when Corelle breaks, it shatters terribly.
Now Pyrex, you'll have to fight me for, ha. Anchor is decent, but Pyrex is better IMO.
I use my Instant Pot, but mostly for batch beans, rice, and broth. My crock pot would work just as well, just not as quickly.
ETA but I'm Gen X, so probably no one cares anyway 😂
No!!! I love both Corelle and my Instant Pot! I just replaced my Corelle set that was about 15 years old. I still need to replace the small bowls but I've been waiting for a sale. Should I just buy them now? I also need a new internal pot for my instant pot. H dropped it and dented it although it still works (for now). I better buy it before they are not available anymore.
I can't imagine life without Corelle and Pyrex. Those have been mainstays in my life since childhood. (Gen X technically but barely).
I have both and have been shopping for Corelle stuff lol. This Millennial didn’t kill anything!
I still love my IP.
I'm down to 4 sad dinner plates from my "nice" daily dinner ware we registered for for our wedding, and one has a big crack, so I've also been looking at Corelle sets. My grandmother used to have the gold butterfly pattern, though I'm likely going with just white.
I think InstantPot just expanded too quickly. There were groups online where people owned, like, 5 different ones in different sizes and so they could make things at the same time and take on in their RV, etc. It was always going to be a bubble and they probably didn't plan for that.

I know I had my 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup when I was in college and I graduated in 1979. Also pyrex related, I dropped a large bowl once and it didn’t just break, it pulverized into some kind of powder that could have been like the size of grains of salt. It was wild but I’m pretty careful with them since. I’ve never seen anything like it.
In high school I demonstrated correlle’s indestructability by SLAMMING one on the kitchen floor. My mom was mad.
I need to buy another set of corelle then. They are they best dishes we have while all the others break over time they hold up and are perfectly lightweight!

I'm Gen X, but my beef with Pyrex is that their newer pour spouts suck on the measuring cups. I can't blame anyone for going elsewhere for a better pour spout. (maybe they changed it back since I tried to buy a new one a few years ago, but seriously how did they make something so awful?) I keep an eye out for the old ones at second hand stores.
And I wonder if part of it is also millennials getting married later (if at all), and they're setting up their "grown-up houses" on WAY less money and in different circumstances than previous generations. So they're setting up their households with much cheaper stuff from places like Ikea, instead of filling out registries by the time they're 22-25. If they get married, are they going to want to replace what they've already got? They seem to be a "less clutter" generation, so I do wonder if/how that plays into it.
I've got my pyrex storage, and may order more while I still can to replace a few that have broken over the years, but I will ditto the poster who said the pouring spout on the glass measuring cups SUCKS. liquid goes everywhere, all down the side of the glass. So frustrating. I like the plastic ones, but the glass needed a redesign for sure. Never wanted an Instapot. Seemed like it didn't actually save that much time, and had a steep learning curve for new recipes. Sounded like a glorified crockpot to me, which I already had. *shrug*
H came out with this little fun fact on Sunday. I had no idea! The only not vintage pieces we have are 2 measuring cups and a 9x13 that is obviously oven safe.
This is also where I can say I use my Pyrex regularly but have never operated the Instant Pot. Even got a cook book and everything but I’m somehow afraid of it. But I did my part and bought 2 of them, one for me and one for my mom so this Gen X did not kill them.
I have an Instant Pot that has never been used too. I can't figure out how to rotate it into what I already use and I don't want to give up my slow cooker, which I do use a lot in the fall/winter. I'll never give up my rice cooker, which keeps rice warm and ready to eat for days after I make it.
I enjoy my pyrex, but I have more than I need and haven't replaced any pieces that have been lost along the way.
