What have you been reading this week? If you have any reading goals, how are they coming along? Do you participate in any summer reading programs?
QOTW: (stealing from a podcast) If you could have the ability to fly or the ability to be invisible, which would you choose and how would you use your superpower? You’d be the only one with that power.
I finished Mary Jane. It was fine but reminded me that I don't really like coming of age stories. Her parents were horrible but the family she nannied for sounded exhausting. I would run screaming if people wanted to burst into song 10 times a day! I also really disliked the ending.
Now I am reading Killing Moon by Jo Nesbo, the new Harry Hole novel. It's good so far, similar to previous books in the series.
QOTW: How fast can I fly? If it's as fast or faster than a car I'd choose that to make traveling easier.
I did sign up for the city summer reading and got the cute t-shirt but they aren’t having you track the books anymore! You tell the librarians how many books you read and get a raffle ticket? Slow week because I was away!
Closer by Sea by Perry Chafe
Charm City Rocks by Matthew Norman
QOTW-Neither is super appealing but I guess flying would save money and time. Being invisible would still require me to go places to lurk.

Just finished The Circus Train. It was pretty good, not amazing though.
Currently reading A Court of Frost and Starlight. Everyone says it's the "Christmas special" of the books, and it definitely is 😂 It's fine so far, but it feels weird having such a tiny book after the huge ones! It's kind of a transition book to other POVs so I get it, but I'm sure I'll get through it quickly!
QOTW: I agree with others, flying would be better for travel, but there are some times being invisible would be nice!
I finished: Stateless by Elizabeth Wein, 3* Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See, 4* (I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I really enjoyed it) The Paris Daughter by Kristin Harmel, DNF
I'm currently reading The Last Lifeboat by Hazel Gaynor.
Qotw: Being able to fly sounds good right now. As long as no one else can fly I can avoid the traffic around here.
I finished The Killing Code by Ellie Marney (YA historical mystery, fun and well done) and started All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Crosby. I wasn’t sure I was in the mood for gritty, but it sucked me in right away. We are signed up our library’s summer reading but not really doing anything with it — you can track a goal (I guess any goal you choose?) or work on a bingo card.
QOTW: I would definitely fly and make travel easier for myself. Though I guess I’d have to be able to fly with luggage and groceries and whatever else. Source podcast: www.thisamericanlife.org/178/superpowers
Just finished the audio of Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Highly recommend the book, specifically the audio for the southern accents. Very Engaging.
I’m also reading Pretty Things by Janelle Brown, also good so far.
QOTW: As a grownup, I’d say fly. Maybe as a kid I would also say that, but there was also a time in my life I would have loved to spy on people and being invisible would make that easy. Now, Im old enough to know I’m better not knowing what everyone’s business is!
I read Smoke Gets In Your Eyes & Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty. I really loved it for something we all probably don’t think about nearly enough. She got into the nuts and bolts; she was funny; she was philosophical. Highly recommend.
My reading for fun is abysmal, I’m at ten now on the year but this was one of my sacrifices (along with ample sleep and consistently working out 😫) with going back to work but not dropping the volunteer gigs. I need to input our info for the summer challenge. My kids and I always complete it, and absolutely will again. Having Monday off is going to be a big catch up day for me.
QOTW: I’d absolutely want to fly. I have dreams with some regularity where I’m fly-swimming and it’s often disappointing to wake up and still have to just walk or run. Haha.

Not participating in any summer reading programs, but I do make a summer reading list for myself each year.
Finished Here for the Drama which was fine. There was too many subplots for it to feel cohesive.
Still reading Not that Kind of Ever After, I'm actually liking it better than when I started, but it's still just okay.
Started listening to For The Love of the Bard which might be my favorite of the three. It's very Hallmark-y. Author heads to her small town to help out with the Centennial Shakespeare Festival and runs into the guy who stood her up at prom.
QOTW: (stealing from a podcast) If you could have the ability to fly or the ability to be invisible, which would you choose and how would you use your superpower? You’d be the only one with that power. invisible, only because I'm afraid of heights and flying my body over things sounds terrifying.
