At the end of July we'll start the work on our two main bathrooms. One will be an accessible bathroom for my MIL which is right next to her bedroom and the other is the main family bathroom. The MIL bathroom is currently a steam room with a shower (what she uses) - we're gutting it entirely and reinstating the window that was bricked up. It's such a dark room it's very difficult to take pics of it.
MIL bathroom: It's going to be wet room style with a walk in shower, similar to this:
We're looking at doing porcelain tile for the walls and floors (marble effect) and a smaller mosaic tile in the shower area. (excuse my socks)
As the bathroom is small, we're going with a smaller sink and one that is wall hung so my MIL doesn't have to bend to grab anything from storage - we're looking at something similar to this:
The toilet will be a simple one that doesn't project to far into the room. And of course, some grab bars (looking for stylish ones) as well as a seat that is attached to the wall.
Our current family bathroom looks like these pics (though w/o the shutters as they don't work with the bathtub there so we've removed them):
We are keeping the bathtub, sink, toilet and radiator as they are all still fairly new and work well. BUT, we're moving things around. We'll switch the toilet from the current wall to the one with the sink, move the sink closer to the toilet and we'll put in a shower next to the sink enclosing the bathtub (like below):
hopefully we'll have room to build a small wall next to the sink so we can have a cubby space for shower stuff, though we may build it into the wall instead. We'll see.
The tiles we like so far are going to be similar to what there is now but with a twist:
Not fixed on the left tiles, but we will be doing the blue & white tiles in a similar pattern to the black and white (current tiles are smaller than the ones we'll get) and keep to cream/white tiles on the walls (not sure if we'll do subway or something else). If we use the mosaic, it'll be on the shower area. Also considering white penny tiles. We'll see.
I love the colour and design choices so far! I have a couple of thoughts:
For both shower floors, make sure the tile won't be slippery when wet at all. We ended up going with a smaller hex tile for our principal shower, as the tile we have on the walls would have been too slippery.
For your main bathroom shower, I see nowhere to put your shampoo, etc. I know you mentioned maybe adding a wall next to the sink. It will affect the 'open' look a bit, but I think it's very important to have good storage in the shower, otherwise you'll be reaching down onto the floor for your stuff. Also, this is just me, but it would drive me bonkers to have nowhere to put my leg up to shave my legs - not sure if you're considering that or not.

Thanks - yes, we're doing a more shiny tile for the wall and a textured floor tile in both bathrooms.
And yes, for the main shower we are having something put in - either a small bench, a nook in the wall or something. And definitely something for shaving legs (in my current bathroom I have a foldable plastic foot stool because there isn't space for anything else - our ensuite is tiny).

Very nice! I have square tile like the one you're thinking for the floor in MIL's bathroom - it's good. Very non slip w/the texture and the grout.
What are you thinking instead of shutters? Since it's a wet room, maybe like a vinyl pull down shade? Or are you going to put a privacy film on the glass? I'm not sure I love the small blue tiles - they sort of remind me of the small colorful tiles we have in our home from circa 1971. I love the bigger blue though - it was a pretty, subtle difference in the color. But maybe all together it will work? I love penny tile, it's classic (lots of grout though....beware, we have it in a shower niche).
Will you tile the whole wall again in the main bath (obviously you will tile the shower wall)? If you do a small wall for storage, you could do tile up to that point, instead of the whole wall behind the sink. Might leave more options for hanging art and recessed cabinets. Plus 2 full walls of tile might feel like a lot? (and be $$$)
No recs on grab bars - I know Dr. G did some in her bath.

Here are the grab bars we bought; I like them a lot. They look decorative and not "institutional." In our primary bath we have one next to the tub, one next to the toilet, and one in the shower.

By law, the window in MIL's bathroom has to have obscured glass, so we'll have that. (basically any window facing another building w/in a certain distance and at a certain level has to have obscured glass) We'll do something similar to one we already have in the big bathroom:
We have also decided against the small blue mosaic tile and decided just to carry the blue & white squares into the shower area.
