We have this funny sitting room off of our bedroom that has a bunch of sliding doors. The old homeowners sewed some curtains to go over the doors - and they are sitting on taped-together rods. It's a janky setup and we want to replace it. The room gets very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.
We had originally been thinking a modern style of drapes (no pleats) and it's a lot $$$$ (the BF wants to do custom). Also, if we got real drapes, there would be a lot of extra fabric and not a lot of room for them to be pulled back, so the view would be more obstructed than it is today.
So we are looking at other options - possibly honeycomb, but I'm really not sure about that.
This link has some sliding panels that might look decent. They also have vertical cellular shades. Not sure if it is your style but it would take up less room than curtains.

That's a gorgeous space! Honestly, I would just get better curtain rods. You can get some that are made for long lengths like that or DIY; you would just need supports where they joins are.
I think anything different would obscure the view and/or functionality of sliding doors. The windows look like a fairly standard height so I don't think you'd NEED to splash out on custom drapes. Also not sure what you mean by "real drapes" taking up more room -- do you mean thicker fabrics? We got little sproingy things you can put around a curtain to keep it kind of compact -- if you put one around the middle of each curtain when you are not using them I think it would keep them pretty out of the way.
These are the ones we had ... they were actually just meant to be temporary until we got the hooks we had backordered but we ended up liking them a lot.
We got drapery on a track from the shade store. It was expensive, but looks nice and easy to open.
Specifically, it was ripple fold drapes and the Lexington track.
Yep - this is what we are looking at. It's a bit pricier than I had wanted to spend, tbh. We did have someone from a different store mention that because the doors are really wide, there would be a lot of fabric and pushing it to the side would obscure the view a bit. So that made us a bit nervous.

Yeah - the fabric that is on there right now is really thin and it's also just...barely wide enough to cover the doors. From what I've seen at showrooms, at least with custom drapes, they are made with quite a bit more fabric so that even when it's pulled all the way across, it doesn't lay totally flat - there's still some extra.
I like the idea of curtains on those doors vs blinds, so I’d just look at better curtains and a better rod. There’s a WIDE range between homemade/taped together and custom drapes.
