I'm the market for a new laptop. I've always used Dells or IBMs. That said, we are an Apple family, ipad, iphones & ipods. So I'm interested in learning more about Macs.
Does anyone have a Mac book pro or air that can shed some light on them for me?
This would be for personal use only so surfing the net, blogging, photoshop, some light spreadsheet and word docs, etc.
*I do plan on visiting an Apple store to play with both in person. Just doing some research before I go. TIA!

We have a MacBook Pro - love it! Since you're already used to the Apple functionality the transition will be easy and it will definitely be good for everything you need.

I have a 7 year old powerbook- it's still going strong! I had to have the motherboard/logic board replaced nearly 3 years ago- and apple had it back to me within 48 hours of dropping it off!

Definitely skip the Air, go for the Pro. If you're going to shell out the money, make it a little more for a computer with real power, kwim? (Plus, depending on your area you can sell an old Pro for wayyy more money than you'd imagine when you're ready to upgrade again.)
We have both and I actually think the Air is more useful than most people realize. One thing I would be concerned about is space. The Air has very little storage space so if you download movies, that might be an issue. I love my Pro, but honestly, the Air would have been just fine for my needs (almost exactly what you'd use it for). I also really love how light it is. The lightness of it makes it comparable to a more functional iPad (and yep, we have one of those too lol). I would only consider the Air if you can get the 13" though. 11" is too small IMO.
Re: the CD drive. We've used a CD exactly once in the year that we've had the Air and you can remotely use the CD drive of a nearby computer for that.
I have a pro and I really like it. It's even converted H. He's due for a new laptop and he's going to get a pro too.
This for us, too. I have a Pro and can't imagine ever going back to a Windows operating system - a Mac's better in every conceivable way. And DH is super jealous and wants one now too.
