I'm having trouble finding the information I need online so thought I'd try crowd sourcing. Does anyone have a dog tracker they use that doesn't require your phone's location to be turned on all the time? For various reasons I prefer to select when location is enabled on my phone (I usually have it off most of the day), and we thought that would be fine with the device we just bought, but it turns out the app won't even open for past statistics, review of the FAQ, etc. unless my phone's location is on.
Would anyone like to recommend their device? We mostly want to track her location and don't care much about the health statistics and other stuff.
I have a tractive tracker for my dog and it's set to only use my location when I am using the app. I haven't had any issues with it still showing historical data once it has a moment to update everything.

They do exist. I researched then awhile back then realized most won't work in this country.
I think people mostly just went with apple air tags since they work on other users gps. This seems like it would be unreliable but apparently works well
We just have an air tag that's on his collar. Our HOA doesn't allow physical fences, so we have an invisible fence, and while he is really good with it (and mostly wants to just lay outside in the sun/sniff around in the garden), we use the air tag as a "just in case."

When I started looking it seems a lot of people use air tags! However we don't have Apple products so can't go that route.
We never had a tracker for our old dog since she just wanted to be with us, but this 10-month-old seems that she might become a runner.
