This hasn't been getting nearly the same amount of coverage as other shootings. It also occurred in a majority-black city, in a poor, majority-black neighborhood. Coincidence?

For sure. Because of the neighborhood where it happened, it isn't even getting much coverage in Philadelphia.

I want to talk about the Sound of Freedom movie. I’m in Florida so it’s of course big news here with church groups flocking in on the theaters. Do the maga types think liberals are all cool with child trafficking? The hype is bothering me so much. There is child trafficking and it is awful, but saying it’s all around us really feeds the narrative that there are trafficking rings targeting every white child in Target in their mom’s shopping cart. I still see posts like this every other day.
mcppalmbeach , I noticed it’s not getting much talk in my navy blue area. I just checked, and it is in my local theater, on showing a day. And I know, preaching to the choir and all, but it’s highly factionalized story by grifters. I mean, apparently there are shreds of truth. But shreds. I was reading a good take down on it on Reddit (I know, I know, some guy on Reddit and all). My take away was the “organization” it’s based on is shady as fuck and pretty much Q. Here are two articles I was reading about it, because I hadn’t even heard about it.
edit - apparently, at the end of the movie is a QR code for donations. Not for child trafficking organizations, not even OUR. But to buy tickets to the movie 🙄🙄

For me, I do read a lot of news, but none of it feels new. Trump is shouting lies, desantis is peddling hate, trump judges are supporting anti constitutional laws, women are under attack.
@@@ Idaho just disbanded their maternal mortality review board. If you don't count them, they don't exist! (Sounds like trump wanting less COVID testing). I was just about to post this one actually. As well as a woman who faces 2 years for giving her child abortion pills. I believe the ten is also facing jail. That's new news that what was entirely predictable has happened.
There's massive flooding in multiple countries right now. Us, India, china, Japan, turkiye off the top of my head

I have never even heard of this movie. I guess it is playing at a few places near me. Not the target audience here. But I feel like this is the plot of a million SUV episodes.

All I know about the movie is that is stars the Qanon Jesus guy (he literally played Jesus in that passion movie) who is besties with Mel Gibson. 🤢

I went to see it Sunday morning. I think that the subject of human trafficking needs more coverage. But before the movie even began I was grossed out - the fellow watchers definitely looked like QAnon followers (stereotypically).
@@@ TW minor assault@@@ The movie wasn't sensational but wasn't bad. I like what the above poster said - it's the plotline of many SUV episodes. I would have preferred to watch it as a netflix or Prime streaming moving based on the quality of its production. It didn't focus on white kids, which was a nice change. And it DID mention that the U.S. is the biggest market for sex trafficked victims. It also mentioned that a key character got into the movement of rescuing kids because he hooked up with a prostitute and AFTER realized that this person wasn't 25 like she said and was actually underaged and was an experienced prostitute since age 6. It grossed him out.
What I observe, however, is the willful lack of connection in conservative circles to realize that the good ole boys who visit massage parlors and such are driving the market up for these services. Oil and gas conferences like OTC in Houston each May drive up prostitution demand. There would be a lot less child trafficking if there was no prostitution market and these men didn't have an appetite for "younger and younger" ladies as stated by Trump. But these groups willfully disassociate from the fact that they are usually a huge part of the root cause of the problem, thanks to their suppressed religious cultures.

@@@@
I have tried telling this to right wingers who post about this. That their focus on affluent suburban kids takes the focus off of those actually most vulnerable and likely to be trafficked the response is always along the lines of “you can never be too careful!” And “I care about ALL victims of trafficking.”

Jim Caviezel. I really liked him in Person of Interest. And then I found out he’s absolutely BSC Q anon.

It's died down a bit in the past two weeks, but there's been a big conflict local to me between the school board adding some books with LGBTQ+ representation to the curriculum and a subset of vocal families protesting that the county removed any policy of notifying them when those books would be read in the classroom or allowing parents to opt their children out of those lessons. We're a blue county in a blue state, but we have a large immigrant population and we've ended up with these weird bedfellows between your classic white homophobe Moms of Liberty hate group types and nonwhite religiously conservative (both Christian and Muslim) groups. And well-meaning people I know have started to be like "Well, maybe we should just let them opt out" because they're not used to being in the middle of this kind of culture war stuff and don't grasp the implications. The whole thing just makes me really sad.
I'm excited by this because what happened in Georgia is so blatant.
The grand jury is being empaneled in Fulton county, which is a weird venue. It encompasses very liberal Atlanta, but also Karen-y north Fulton. Overall it’s considered pretty liberal but whether you pull a liberal or conservative-leaning jury in Fulton on any given day is always kind of a mystery.

Some @
So last year a local church started attending our public library's board meetings complaining that a Pride display made one of their teen member's (she was 19) "uncomfortable". Because of all their pushing the majority of people who spoke out were against the church and for the library. Also, due to the church's complaints the library did an audit and found 75% of their teen books had a white protagonist and only 10 to 15% were books with LGBTQ+ character....so now the library has a new plan to be intentional with a focus on increasing diversity in their teen materials. That church fucked around and now they are finding out they are the minority here. Sure the library should have had more diversity already, but we are getting that now and thanks to that church.

This is amazing. They should create a whole new section for the new, more diverse books and name it after the church.
The original video was deleted for all the pushback.
This content creator was very gracious in his call out of Hank Green and his very privileged, white cis man TikTok and thought it deserves a link (HG also posts why he took the original down):

My MAGA "friends" usually fall back to throwing child trafficking in my face on social media. And of course they are promoting this movie.

michelle, that's too long to write and not really edited in my phone, but to add to o&g conferences increasing demand, in pretty sure the Superbowl is the biggest increase annually. So I'll add that to my general distaste for football
