I did google but I guess my questions are for how this works with insurance or savings cards. I imagine the compounding pharmacies would be more expensive?
It’s cheaper because they are making (compounding) the med. They typically combine semiglutide with b12 or similar to get around legal issues. It’s essentially a generic.

To answer the pricing question- it looks like I’ll be paying roughly $125 a month. I’m sure that will increase as my dosage increases.
For those of you on the injections, do you still drink? I just started them and realized H and I have a whole weekend that involves drinks (not to excess, but I’d want one per day). I have been eating very healthy so I don’t think it would derail my health efforts. I’m just concerned about if you feel sick after drinking.

It doesn’t work with insurance. If you don’t have insurance coverage, this is a good way to find your medicine regularly through a compound pharmacy. I don’t think they take coupons. It is just all out of pocket. I believe I pay $450/month for meds.
I just wanted to add that while the compounding pharmacy I will be using to ride out the shortage doesn’t take insurance, they do allow FSA/HSA funds for payment.

Occasionally. I think I get hungover from fewer drinks than I did before. I didn’t drink a ton before, though. However, wine doesn’t taste right anymore. I’ve actually dumped glasses out after one sip a couple of times.

It has greatly lessened my enjoyment of wine and beer. I don't get sick, but where I used to really enjoy the whole go to a winery/do a tasting/get a bottle, I just don't care and it tastes different. Cocktails are still good to me, but I'm usually only going to have one both pre-ozempic and now. I hope you have a good time and feel good!

I basically don’t drink at all right now. I had a single drink on a lower dose and felt awful most of the next day. I’m not a big drinker anyway so now I just avoid alcohol altogether.

Much less than before, and I wasn't a big drinker before, but I haven't found that I'm unable to drink or get sick from drinking or anything, especially if I limit myself. We even went to an all-inclusive a few weeks ago and I had a few drinks throughout the course of the day and some days of having one drink at dinner and then one shortly after (which is the most I'll drink now), which is much more than usual for me, and I was still fine.

Most drinks give me a headache/hangover the next day. A month ago or so DH and I went to our favorite brewery. I had 2 beers over the span of several hours. The next day I felt like I had been out partying all night. A lot of things just don’t taste good anymore either. I used to drink a ton of Diet Coke and I haven’t had one in months because it tastes horrible to me now.

Reviving the topic - my doctor put in a request for prior authorization ofr wegovy today. I am hoping it is approved. My BMI is high, I have high blood pressure (2 meds), under active thyroid and a strong history of family cardiovascular disease.
Has anyone recently been able to obtain the .25mg?

I looked on the FDA website and it says 'limited availability, estimated shortage duration TBD'. So... I'd advise calling around to specific pharmacies to see if they have any. Costco has been really good with the Mounjaro, but that has been available for a while now.
Maybe see if your doctor will approve Zepbound? That's the MJ equivalent but for weight loss.
My husband just started on Ozempic. He was able to get a sample pen from the doctor's office with enough doses for four weeks at .25, and two weeks at .5. He luckily hasn't had any side effects yet, so he is going to move up to 1 mg this week which he was able to get at the pharmacy. Would your doctor's office happen to have any sample pens?
I was on wegovy for about 2 years, lost a good amount of weight then I got stuck around the time they announced zepbound was approved. I talked to my doc and she switched me to zepbound and I started late last week and I feeel like I am doing great. I do not want to be thin, thin. I want to be around 150 or so, I am currently sitting around 178. I have not had any side effects with the zepbound thus far whereas with wegovy I had nausea and vomiting but it was manageable with zofran. I am looking forward to achieving my goals, excited actually.

chchchia, picksthemusic, I was going to ask about zepbound depending on how hard it is to find Wegovy.
megamous, my PCP doesn't have any samples, but she put in a referral to the weight loss center and said that they may have some. I am waiting to for them to call for an appointment.

I have had no problems getting wegovy or zepbound. I had my pa go through and within a day zepbound was ready for pickup. I paid 25.00 for a month.
your insurance already started covering the zepbound? I am assuming you are at a mid range dose, no issue finding it?
I saw my doctor right after thanksgiving and told her I wanted to switch to zepbound as soon as it was released and she told me to keep an eye out for that to happen and I saw it was ready to go. I messaged her and she sent the rx in and I waited a few days for the PA to go through and then voila, it was ready. I am on a mid range dose and my doc wrote 2 rx's for me, if I tolerated the mid range dose I am having it upped after a month and it's just waiting for me to hit the fill around the first week of January. My doc has been awesome and supportive of me through this.
Hi! I started mounjaro, currently paying out of pocket, may switch to a compound pharmacy, but do have some concerns about that.
Has mounjaro been pretty well stocked in the pharmacies?
I am in Jersey and so far so good with me and the inventory. I also had zero problems with wegovy too. I have always wondered if it matters what state or region you are in if it's easier to get.
mcmel did you end up using the compounded semaglutide? I just started it and wondered how it's going for you.
I did! 45 pounds down since mid-August 😃 good luck!!!
Oh that's great, congrats! What have your side effects been like, if any? I'm doing my second shot tonight and so far I haven't noticed anything different.

So the side effects of the actual shot- sometimes nauseated in the mornings.
The side effects of eating significantly less food (like sometimes not 1,000 calories which I try to hit every day)- muscle weakness and I’m just starting to see some hair loss in my brush and shower. I get tired doing manual labor, like gardening and such. I think if you were better about hitting 1,200 calories a day this wouldn’t happen to you. The hair loss is not really surprising to me as it’s basically the same as my friends who have had gastric surgery. The hair will rebound and I will continue to work hard to eat enough calories and protein.

mcmel when did you start feeling the diminished appetite? I thought it was starting for me a couple of days ago, but alas it was a brutal stomach bug that my whole family got. I had heard about the extra need for protein so I have started making a protein shake each morning to try and keep up with that. I'm curious to see how it interacts with my workout routine and hope I'll still have the energy for it.

I didn’t start feeling the effects until I started taking probably 5.0 units of a 1.0 mg/ml dosage and even then it was kinda ehh. Once I went on a full 10 units, that’s when things really kicked into gear starting the next evening after the shot.
I think working out would be a great thing to do to keep the muscle mass up. I should but I haven’t started yet.
ETA- since then, my doctor has upped the concentration and lowered my dosage, if that makes any sense. I’m now on 4.5 units of 2.4 mg/ml. So it’s the same concentration of medicine that I’m getting, but I inject half the amount. She did it to save me money. That vial should last 10-ish weeks and cost around $280.

Where in NJ? I’m in Bergen county and have had a ton of trouble.

Some tips for those starting out - make sure you're getting enough hydration, and by that I mean adding electrolytes in some form. Whether that's adding Liquid IV packets to your water, Propel, no-sugar sports drinks or the like. It helps with fatigue a lot, I've noticed, and helps keep you flushing stuff out.

My doctor added B12 to my compound to help alleviate the fatigue, hopefully it helps. I drink a ton of water already but I think I’ll go back to adding BCAA powder to my workout water.

My doc wrote a script for zepbound to see if my insurance would approve, and it was filled within a couple hours. Didn’t pick it up because it’s astronomical in cost.
My doc wants to talk oral meds like Contrave and Qysmia.

There is a manufacturer's coupon you can use if you have commercial insurance without weight loss medication coverage.

I'm in south Jersey right outside of philly. My pharmacy is Walgreens.
