I'm a flight attendant. My hotels are paid for by the company and I do not get hotel credit (except maybe once a year a new hotel allows it). The company has been putting us up in a lot of Marriott hotels. I do get points when I eat at the hotel or charge to my room. I do not have any type of travel awards card. In fact I don't really have an awatds credit card. My DS is going out of state to college. I plan on visiting. I'm trying to decide between the Chase Sapphire and he Marriott Boundless. I've researched and am still on the fence. Both have a 95 annual fee. I've read that as a starter travel rewads card the chase is better but if you are more loyal to marriott then that is better . I'm not really more loyal to marriott, its just where I hae more points right now. Any advice is welcome. Also, I don't mind talking to me like I'm a toddler. Money is not my forte.

I just got a chase sapphire about w years ago based on the recs here. I will say I'm split for work between marriot and Hilton so onendoesnt do better for me on that front. But points are adding up quick and it's been good and there are different places I can use it at.

Oops that should say 2+ years ago i got it.
A referrel link basically gives us both points if you sign up through the code i provide.. since i "referred" you.
I have the Chase United card and really like it. Here's my referral link if you'd like to use it. I think we both get extra miles when you sign up: www.referyourchasecard.com/215j/RLPJIOKRQ6

What do you mean you don’t get hotel credit? Like your stays don’t count towards status? You can’t enter a rewards number on your reservation?
If that’s the case, then I’d go with the Chase card. I have both (well, the premium version of both) and the biggest benefit of the Marriott card is the accelerated pathway to status. I like having Marriott status for the little perks like late checkout. But the Boundless card only gives you silver status (which is pretty meh) so if you can’t get credit toward gold, I wouldn’t bother. The Chase card will give you more flexibility; the points are converted to cash so you can spend them however and wherever you like.
ETA: I like my Marriott Bonvoy card because I get automatic platinum status without a minimum stay requirement. That, to me, is worth the steep fee. But when I was traveling a lot for work (pre-covid), I would get to platinum based on stays alone, and didn’t really need the card. So in your case, I would choose the Chase card.

Perfect, thank you! I was leaning toward the chase but kept wondering if that was correct.
Yeah as flight crew we don’t really ever see our reservation. On our schedule we just see the hotel. So I can’t link a reservation to my rewards number.

Definitely Chase then. But it’s worth asking when you check in at the front desk if they can add a rewards number.

When you get to th3 hotel to check in though they should be able to link it at that time?

I can, and do. But we don't get credit for the room. I'm not sure if any airline allows that.
We have 26000 flight attendants and I'm not sure how many pilots. No hotel is going to allow us to accure points when we stay when we don't pay. They give the airline a corporate rate. I was talking to a pilot today though who said in their next contract he'd rather the company negotiate points at hotels in lieu of a significant raise. I wouldn't mind that either.
I don't know. I was just at a Marriott last week and even though the room was booked by my company using a corporate rate, they attached my loyalty number and gave me the points.
I didn't even ask the check in receptionist offered, so I definitely don't think it hurts to ask.

My H is a pilot and you are right, no nightly credits which is really unfortunate. He has both CCs and does have platinum status with Bonvoy/Marriott. He loves having status; the breakfasts alone pay for the CC fee and he does eat breakfast in the hotel on layovers. He also likes the M Lounge access. Are those things you would take advantage of? If so, lmk and I'll elaborate.
I have the Marriott Boundless. You do get one free night per year (up to 35000 point stay) so that basically covers the $95 fee every year. You also get automatic nights toward status every year. I believe it is 6x points on Marriott purchases, 3x points on groceries, gas, dining up to a certain amount and 2x points on everything else. Points add up quick. This summer I have stayed 5 hotel nights for free with points. I pick the hotels with nights under 20000 points if they are available. For 5 nights, I used my certificate and only 55k points. I also get points just for checking in, not sure if that would apply to you. For example, even on my free nights I got 500 points for staying.
