I started this sweater last month and I'm past the most difficult part now. I never knitted a sweater from the yoke down before and the intricate patterns at the top took me a bit to figure out. Especially the bud stitch and the short rows for back shaping. Then it was not quite clear when to start fading in the second color, but I figured that out too and then split for the body and sleeves. Now it is just straight up 5 purl, 1 knit all the way down to the ribbing (while fading to other colors in the process). I am currently on color two and really like how it matches the first color but brings in the blue that will be there in color 3.

Thanks kellady, I'm currently on color 3, which as you can see blends in perfectly with color 2. I can't wait to start color 4, but probably after my work trip to Europe. I'm traveling light so leaving my knitting at home. Hope I don't regret it.

I got back from my trip last week and picked up the knitting again. I have now faded in the 4th color, which is much darker than the 3rd, so the fade is not as smooth, but it is still a beautiful color combination. I just tried it on last night to see how much longer I'll make it. I like longer sweaters so I will add at least 2-3 more inches before I start the ribbing. I like the fit so far. I was worried that the XL size was going to be too big, but I like the silhouette, even though the example on the model looks looser on her.
