I had a funny realization today. I have colleague I've connected with a few times over the years for various networking reasons, could be aptly described as "seasoned" (as in he graduated college when I was in middle school). He's always kinda given me the warm fuzzies compared to a lot of the other salt and pepper aged men in my technical field but I didn't have a firm reason. He just seemed like good people.
Today I have concrete evidence.
He sent me a three sentence email confirming a time for a call. it had TWO exclamation points.

My husband decided to apply for an internal position that is a HUGE reach - it's for a role that he could do (with a lot of hard work and learning) and it's two corporate grades above his. He knows he probably won't get it but at the same time it's what he'd be fully ready to apply for in a bit over a year. I expect he won't sleep well for the next week or two as he's also finishing off a presentation for the new CEO. He's going to be so grumpy...fun times.
I'm going to just do my own thing and luckily, I'll be going away for a week with girlfriends on a week from Sunday. I can't wait!

One of us! One of us!
Were the exclamation points on the first and third sentences? With a period for the second?

A home remodel is the most utterly privileged thing to complain about, but my goodness I'm so tired of having strangers in my house every day and feeling like I have no privacy or personal space.

I totally get this. And I feel like almost every space in my house has something in it from the remodel, so we have nowhere that is neat and tidy - THE DUST!!!!
I got a deeply weird catcall today on my way to work. walking through a downtown area, at 8:00 AM on a freakin' tuesday, dressed in kinda frumpy business casual. A newish model white sedan slows down and pulls to the curb as it approaches me, window goes down and I look in the window as I walk by thinking the driver is going to ask for directions ersumshit...and instead the man inside, in a fucking suit, yells out "Imma suck them titties on lunch break" and then drives off.
what.the.fuck? why the fuck? WHO THE FUCK?
I have so many follow up questions that will never be answered.

I had one of those little moments that restores your faith in humanity today. I tried out a new local coffee/breakfast place, and inside by the coffee urns they had a sign that said, "If you are in need please grab a mug and help yourself, no questions asked." Looks like a place that I will continue to support.
Has anyone ever used a resume writing service? Curious if they seem worth it. mine feels very out of date in terms of how it's written - I haven't really done anything to it besides adding new bullets in over a decade.

wawa, my husband asked ChatGPT to write them a resume for a specific type of job, ran it by a few people and it appears that it did a good job (format wise - he filled in specifics).
I just went horseback riding for the first time in 30 years! I rode growing up some and had been wanting to go for years but hadn't actually done so for a variety of reasons. I was a little nervous but it was a lot of fun.
MH had never been on a horse before and told me after the fact that he was scared for the first 30 minutes or so. I'm thankful that he didn't express any apprehension beforehand or I might of talked myself out of it. In the end he enjoyed it though and said he'd be willing to go again in the future.

Ugh. Watching tv this morning and an ad for a revival led by Franklin Graham is coming to London. Boo - stay over the pond. Don't want your brand of right wing "Christianity".

I made a sweet tomato jam last night to bring to my book club tonight to go with some crackers and chevre. Trying super hard not to eat the entire jar.

Ages ago (dang, 20 years ago!), the company that laid me off paid for services from a company that helps with finding new jobs - they did interview prep, some goal setting stuff, and an intensive resume writing thing.
My resume was substantially improved. Night and day difference. In hindsight, I should have looked for a similar service during my last employment hiatus. It didn't even cross my mind at the time (15 years between that layoff and the more recent job hunt will do that, I suppose).
I have no clue how much it costs, but I'd certainly consider it. Heck, I might consider it if I seriously want to go after a change in job role... I suspect there is a wealth of knowledge on how to make a resume that is still human readable, but that works well with all the bot-review systems out there these days.

I'm getting a jury duty summons today! Finally! Except I'm on vacation next week and the following week makes me nervous if I have to report due to family stuff. I might have to postpone depending on the call dates they give me. *cries*
I was summoned for state court once in 2010 (dismissed immediately due to a snowstorm) and one for federal court in 2016 (dismissed despite what seemed like 90% of the entire waiting room being called in but not me). I've always wanted to serve. But there's also the risk that I might have a conflict because now I'm friendly with an ADA in the state court, so if she is the ADA for whatever I get called in for...sigh.

IME you’re given more notice than that since a lot of people need to know further in advance to be able to take off of work, so you should be fine. I think I usually had a month or so notice.

I went to a Farmer's Market yesterday that I'd never been to before and this Amish lady was selling baked goods and I bought a couple small pies and OMFG this is the best pie I think I've ever eaten in my life.
