I know two people who take it because they can't take stimulants because it exacerbates their anxiety, and it seems to work for them. I think it takes longer for it to take effect than the stimulants.
My son had a terrible experience with Qelbree. It seemed like it was working well for a few weeks, but then started significantly ramping up his anxiety and giving him hallucinations and night terrors. It was terrifying, but luckily all resolved as soon as we stopped that medication.
ETA: everyone has such a different experience with ADHD meds, though, and I really hope it works for your kid. I love that non-stimulants last for the whole day and lead to more evenness, but they haven’t worked for my kid and this one was particularly terrible for him.
Our pediatrician raves about it. 2 of her own kids take it and have found much more success than with stimulants. I was hesitant to switch DC to it because of my own bad history with SSRIs. It may be worth revisiting at some point.
