rubytue, pip it at the post and offer her some at the beginning - cut a small piece, put it on your bread plate and say, "Look MIL, I reserved this just for you so you can try it out!"
I went to the Barbie moving today (I hate going to movies filled with people and today's theatre had all of 8 of us there). I had all the feels.
Going off the bedsheet convo from yesterday... what bath towels does everyone like? I looked at the Boll & Branch because of all the influencers shilling that brand... but holy $$$. Also I have a feeling they are not as good as they make them sound. Just like the Brooklinen, Ruggable rugs etc. etc. I've been buying the Target Threshold ones, but the last few I bought haven't held up well. They are fraying and wearing thin in spots and they aren't that old. I like the bath sheet size.
I don't know if they are still awesome but I have towels from LL Bean that have lasted forever, including dog duty. (They went from personal, to guest, to dog - 10 yrs later, still amazing towels that haven't frayed at all).
And may I be petty for a minute? My SIL may make half a mil a year, and she might have two houses and two kids in a prestigious college, BUT her towels are stinky and I'm fixing that for her. heh.
My dad always used to say "I'm glad my friends and family all have nice things because then I can use them and not maintain them" so...this is just your reminder that having a SIL with a beach house is actually better than having a beach house.
You're very nice to fix the stink though LOL
I mean it's not pure altruism- we have to use them this week haha
DD's class schedule just posted, and everything is actually correct! She did summer health & PE, so in theory that class would get taken off of her schedule and her chosen elective added once summer grades posted, but we'd heard from other families that that change didn't always happen smoothly. I am THRILLED to not be bugging a busy school counselor at the beginning of the school year. She's off to freshman orientation in a few, and apparently doesn't think she needs me there ::sniff sniff::
I am envious! dd is starting HS and I guess the school has switched to this new scheduling system and it's a complete disaster. Some kids got 3 lunch periods while others got none. 2 of the classes dd signed up for are not being offered due to lack of interest. Except they are interesting classes- humanities and speech & debate. So now she's stuck taking painting and 3D design, neither of which she has an interest in :/
Plus I guess they had a town hall and the seniors got really riled up and the principal cried.
I am so frustrated and disappointed. I really hope things turn around. dd left an awesome school for this school and I am having alllll the regrets.
I am sitting on the beach alone and it is heaven. We've come the last 2 weekends but my husband is constantly fiddling with umbrellas, announcing his trips to the water or the bathroom and silently wondering how long I'm going to want to stay. He cannot just sit down and let everyone be. I splurged and booked the dog walker and am staying all day while my son is in camp. I got one of the best bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches I've ever had and an iced coffee for breakfast. I very been here 2+ hours and haven't even opened my book, I'm just staring at the ocean.

I haven’t bought any in recent years so I can’t speak to the current quality, but I’ve been very happy with the Hotel Collection towels from Macys. Evidently they are the same as the old Fieldcrest towels, just sold and renamed.
I think my cat is happy that I'm home today. He has been laying on the floor next to my desk all morning and keeps making the most adorable sleeping poses. I was not home the last three days and I guess he missed me.
I had a great conversation with my supervisor this morning, and I'm feeling pretty lucky to have her as a sort of mentor. I think we are very similar in the way we think and our values, but she's so much more advanced in a lot of things than I am so she's a great role model. I've never really had a mentor in my career up to this point and I think it's really hurt my career development, so it's nice to finally have someone like that. I'm not even particularly interested in advancement in terms of things like promotions, more just being a better human and doing a good job within the place I work (which is important to me as we're a non-profit that does some things I genuinely care about).
DS had his cousin sleep over last night. He couldn't come until late because of practice, so he got here around 730. We took them out for pizza, and the late showing of the ninja turtles movie. It was cute! I have no idea how much they slept. I made them go to bed around midnight and shut off all access to internet/any technology (they are sneaky lol); they were still screwing around in DS's room playing with toys when I said I was going to sleep. I woke up at 3:30AM to pee and found them in the living room, who knows wtf they were doing, if they slept at all since midnight or had been up that whole time, but I'm pretty sure they went to sleep after that. They were up by 815 though.
Cousin left around 10:30 and I brought DS to childcare so I could work in peace. I hope that when they have their afternoon quiet time that he actually sleeps a little. We have a back to school pool party tonight at 7 that the PTA is sponsoring and I want to go so that he can see his friends and get excited about school, but I don't want him to be a tired disaster while there. H told me he wasn't sure if he could come with us tonight because "he has so much work to do" and I said no, you're an administrator in the damn district, you need to come support. And also, how many activities did I go to alone while you were Ironman training. This shut him down quickly, lol.

Oh man This is DD's first year of HS too, there's already so much we don't know and I can't imagine those system-wide issues on top of it. Fingers crossed they get it together!
I promised my kids we could adopt a cat in September.
Past me was not looking out for September 2023 me 😬
I mean this in the best way, but your online personality is like every cat I've ever met. I think you are about to meet the love of your life!
🤣🤣🤣
I’ve often quipped that I’m not so much a cat person as I am simply a cat.
The love of my life died a few years ago after terrorizing our family for 13 years. I truly cannot wait to meet the bastard that has been sent to replace him.
But I’ll miss this hedonistic life of stepping out of bed onto the floor and not onto cat barf.

It seems weird to cancel a class due to lack of interest when they were having so many scheduling problems with basics like lunch. I’d follow up to check that they know it wasn’t just a scheduling error and was actual lack of interest. Maybe they could open up and put some of those kids with three lunches in it.
I discussed my dream with H and he has agreed to help make sure I will not be seated within arms reach of MIL all weekend. Woo! Baby steps. I did get a bit of “but you have to understand…” crap. But he did acknowledge that his mother, her kids understand but I don’t have to.
I just had sushi from my favorite little place near my office. They always know my name when I walk in and the food is SO good. Totally just made my day.
In other news, my leg is feeling better today. So I made a PT appointment, and am currently in the mental debate as to if I have an injury and should rest more or if it was just 49 year old soreness to be expected, And, I don’t agree with the answer, so I’m going to try different shoes, and go to the gym tonight anyway. Paying close attention and stopping at a small twinge. Then I have a week off.

This is a great idea and also, I have never heard "pip it at the post" before and I love it.
I was wearing my Doc Marten sandals from 1998 and unsurprisingly the glue holding the insole is getting a little wonky. Is that something a cobbler could replace? The rest of shoe is fine.

I am married to a cat, and also have a cat. Sometimes I really miss my golden retriever, she matched my life outlook more lol.
I've had a cat for 5 years now and I've only stepped in cat barf once! He really only vomits a couple of times a year. Crossing my fingers for you that yours is similar!

My dog has started sleeping right in the middle of the bed. I think he is doing it out of spite because I was gone so much this summer. I am waking up each morning laying across the bed where the pillows go while he is happily snoozing on the rest of the bed.

Vent ahead with an example of how my time is wasted at work. Have meeting with managing physicians and one topic is about better utilizing our two audiologists. They decide they should schedule something when at least 2 of the 4 of them can meet with the audiologists to discuss. Today, they ask me to get their availability (the audiologists) and get the meeting scheduled. I email audiologists, they promptly reply with their availability which I send along to the doctors. Two of the four reply that they can do 8/29. I say great, shall I schedule that and ask if either of the other 2 will join. One replies that she cannot. Another doc replies "We should do this when all 4 of us can be available". Head/desk. WHY am I asking for the availability of the audiologists when it will actually hinge on when the 4 of you can all be together in the same room at the same time - a next to impossible task. Not to mention that it wasn't what was discussed in the first place.

I absolutely love Pottery Barn towels. They’re pricier, but last really well. We got some for my bridal shower in 2006 and they still look like new! We just got some new ones (built a new bathroom in our house, so got them to match) and they look and feel so nice.
Right on the heels yesterday on the news I'm still fertile (lol, )my new student worker asked me if I remembered 1972 today. Might be time to touch up the botox.
This morning I had to look something up and I used a good ol’ fashioned text book! I have 2 text books in my office and I use both a few times per year. Not sure why, but it always makes me happy to feel nostalgic to use a textbook instead of the internet.
I love this! I kept all of my accounting textbooks and refer to them more than I thought I would!
Same here = and considering how much those big, hard covered books cost, atleast they are somewhat useful after school.
I was at breakfast with a friend this AM when my neighbor texted me to let me know my 84 year old father, who ONLY wears cowboy boots (not safe for climbing) and has a bad leg, was outside up on a ladder.
I flew home so fast to find out wtf was going on. Yeap - here he is up on the ladder trying to staple dryer sheets to the side of the house. WHY you ask? Because he read it on the internet as a way to deter woodpeckers.
I went and did tai chi in the park this morning, and then a few of us went for a walk afterwards. It was absolutely great.... Except the end result was me being sweaty AF and having to scrap my plans to go to Target because I came out the other side of the walk looking like I fell in a pool.

He sounds like grandfather. We used to have to give him tasks to do so he wouldn't get himself into trouble.
