I was such a proud mama last night- dd had her first field hockey practice, and she did really well! This is her first team sport. She was able to mostly pay attention to the coach, she did well dribbling and passing, and she was aggressive when she needed to be. Yay!
I’m on an airplane right now headed on vacation. Apparently I can free in-flight wifi from T-Mobile so that was a nice surprise.
It almost didn’t matter though because when I got on the plane I realized I didn’t have my phone. So that was a fun adrenaline rush this morning as I ran off the plane in a panic. Luckily my phone was right where I left it, but oy. That was not fun.

I was so annoyed yesterday, because H and Lucy went on their annual record and comic shopping adventure (we are down the shore)= FOR SEVEN HOURS. They had the car, so all the boys and I could do was hang around the house. Still annoyed about that part, but honestly? They boys and I had a nice day. I set up buckets of water for joey to throw rocks into, and David and I had a water gun fight. I read, they watched videos together. Nice.
Today we are going to the beach, and maybe going to the southern tip of the island to look for shells. I love the shore so much, I'm not even mad about doing laundry while down here.
And may I be petty for a minute? My SIL may make half a mil a year, and she might have two houses and two kids in a prestigious college, BUT her towels are stinky and I'm fixing that for her. heh.
DD's class schedule just posted, and everything is actually correct! She did summer health & PE, so in theory that class would get taken off of her schedule and her chosen elective added once summer grades posted, but we'd heard from other families that that change didn't always happen smoothly. I am THRILLED to not be bugging a busy school counselor at the beginning of the school year. She's off to freshman orientation in a few, and apparently doesn't think she needs me there ::sniff sniff::

Just saw my email showing the mail to be delivered today. Looks like niece's wedding invitation is coming. It's addressed to "DH's first name and family". Guess I'm in the "and family". The kids and I aren't going. BIL and SIL and their kids aren't going either, but SIL mother of bride is clearly annoyed I'm not attending and that my kids aren't. Tough tit. Your daughter keeps bringing shit men around my family and now she is marrying one and we will have to endure him at holidays, setting boundaries is then fine.
I had such a nice night out with my niece. I love living close enough to each other that's it's easy to make dinner plans on the fly. Her BF is adorable, too, and we always have a good conversation. I approve!
I had a moment of panic this morning. I was heading out the door to go to the office and was loading my bags into the passenger side front seat like I always do (laptop bag, lunch bag, purse). I closed the door and my car locked. Ummmmm...? I couldn't get any of the doors to unlock, it was like the car didn't think the fob was nearby. My H is in Denver this week, so I was in full-on panic mode trying to figure out what to do since my phone was also locked in the car with my purse. I was going to run next door to ask my neighbor if I could use her phone, then thank god I had the sense to go back in the house and check the tray we have by the front door to see if my H happened to have left the secondary fob there. SUCCESS! I grabbed his fob, went back out to the garage and the doors unlocked. But what was weird is that all of the settings were based on my fob not his, even though his is what was recognized when it was unlocked. WEIRD!
I have the most bizarre things happen to me when it comes to any kind of technology. Even my H jokes about it, because these things happen to me mainly when he's out of town for work. Oy!
We move next weekend and the house isnt done yet. I'm hoping by Wednesday but This is causing me to have anxiety. Im spending my days between two houses and its never ending. I just want it over with.
I leave for Vegas next Sunday for a work thing. It’s my first time at this event and I have no idea what to pack for the evening events. Do people get dressed up “Vegas-y”? Do they keep it more low key because it’s work? I have no idea and basically everyone I work with are unstylish and older men in IT, so I don’t trust their commentary AT ALL. I did ask one woman on my team what she usually packs, but her style is not at all my style, so that wasn’t helpful either. I’m about to buy an entire new wardrobe for this trip and pack 15 alternate outfits to cover all bases.
Also, some of these events are pool parties. You know what is an ACTUAL NIGHTMARE? The idea of being in a bathing suit around my male teammates. And alternatively, seeing them in swimsuits. I’ll never recover. My boss without a shirt on? It’s weird! But it’s Vegas in August, how do I not die of heat stroke outside if I don’t do the pool?!
H is going out of town tomorrow-Sunday for a bachelor party and I'm so looking forward to having the bed to myself all weekend (but of course I'll miss him ) He was debating if he wanted to go and I may have been a bit too persuasive. LOL.
Yesterday was DD's 13th birthday. I have a teen!! We celebrated with family this past weekend, so last night she had her friends over for a "birthday hang". The six of them played Switch Sports, ate pizza, devoured some Crumbl cookies, and had a GREAT time! Six 12-13 year olds can be loud, but it was great hearing them have such a good time. School starts Monday, and even though they're all too cool to admit it, they're ready to get back into a routine and see each other regularly.
I had a MIL dream last night. She has this thing where we go out to dinner and she think, because she is the matriarch or because they are paying or something, that she has the right to reach over with her fork onto anyone else’s plate at the table. I have expressed that this is a boundary issue for me before (like, pointing out she should ask and I’ll give her some on her plate). In my dream, she did it again and I snapped. She snapped back she was paying. To which I went on a rant about her paying does not take away the rest of our agency. And fucking order it if you want it.
Please let this not happen this weekend. I don’t want to snap. But I will if that damn fork comes over unannounced during a meal again.

My in-laws are big on “sharing” and taking food off your plate. But…one is is allergic to shellfish and the other doesn’t like spicy food so guess what I get as my entree? It’s also how my husband started liking watermelon water ice as a kid lol

@sameoldstory, hope you have a great vacation! Glad you noticed your phone missing before they closed the door, and it was in the same place as you left it!
arielroux, I really don't have suggestions except for a pencil skirt or short sleeve or sleeveless solid color knit dress, which can be easily dressed up or down. Being from the midwest, Vegas is a whole different world to me, and it's been probably 10 years since I've been there, so I'm sorry I'm not much help. I would also be horrified by the thought of a work pool party. If you have to go, maybe look for a flowy coverup or some sort of light/flowy dress that you could wear as a coverup.
We spent the night on evacuation alert for a wildfire that is ~6 miles from our house and considered out of control. Heat and high winds today and tomorrow are excepted to make it worse. We are packed and prepared for an immediate evacuation so there is nothing to do now, but wait and hope they can get a handle on it today.
I'm officially approved to rescue a dog!! Now we just need to find a good match. I'm like super swamped with work, but somehow still have time to stare and click through beagle pictures all day.
ETA: Also--the people who work for this rescue love dogs so much and I keep telling H I think I found my people. LOL

Oh I wish I could have an out like that. But she eats everything. But she is also always on some fad diet so she won’t order things, but wants to try them. 🙄🙄🙄 I’m not a monster, I’m generally happy to share. But, fucking ask. The rouge fork just flying over unannounced is something I can NOT handle.
This situation is always so hard to navigate though. Objectively, IMHO, sticking your used fork into someone else meals without consent is the rude behavior, but the reaction makes a scene at the table.
TW: food issues in edit below edit: last time, it was paleo. Before that, keto, always some highly restricted something diet. And I eat food. I’m also pushing 200 and she is 95lbs soaking wet, and talks about food all day, what she can and can’t eat, what she is cooking for dinner, what she bought at Costco. I get triggered just being there. Oh, and she subscribes to all health issues can be cured by diet, and I’ve had many health issues. So there is that aspect, too. Please let me eat in peace.

My dad always used to say "I'm glad my friends and family all have nice things because then I can use them and not maintain them" so...this is just your reminder that having a SIL with a beach house is actually better than having a beach house.
I am back in the office today, I've been working from home all week which has been great. But it is good to dress up and be around other adults again.
DD and I had a great time while the boys were away on their mini vaca. I feel like I have so much more time when I'm not cleaning up and taking care of two extra people.
DS starts some grueling football workouts this week. I'm harping on staying hydrated but I can feel the eye rolls through the back of his head.

My son called last night (for one minute - military is lame about that stuff) and said he's coming home Tuesday. He doesn't have his flight details yet, but they told him he will arrive late or maybe even the next morning. The airport is a four hour drive for us. So, it will be a little exhausting, but at least we will get our boy! I hate that he has to come home, but I'm so excited to see him.

We had Meet the Teacber yesterday. Overall it was fine, but I don't love the classroom set up. There are no actual chairs. There are stools, poofs, and some other weird seating instead of chairs and desks. DS tried all of them yesterday but had a hard time getting on them.
This is reason 10000 I'm pissed our appeal got denied for in school services.
Going off the bedsheet convo from yesterday... what bath towels does everyone like? I looked at the Boll & Branch because of all the influencers shilling that brand... but holy $$$. Also I have a feeling they are not as good as they make them sound. Just like the Brooklinen, Ruggable rugs etc. etc. I've been buying the Target Threshold ones, but the last few I bought haven't held up well. They are fraying and wearing thin in spots and they aren't that old. I like the bath sheet size.

It's so nice to have the BF home. It was weird sleeping next to someone after 10 weeks of sleeping alone. We went out for donuts this morning because he'd really missed them. The company provides all meals, but they don't provide snacks or junk, which is fair, he just missed it. He's taking me out for a fancy dinner tonight, but insisting it be a surprise.
Yesterday they announced a return to office 2 days a week starting September 5 until January and then 3 days a week and people are PISSED. I mean, I'm also really not happy about it, but whew. There were approximately 130 anonymous "questions" in the Q&A list about it. Not a great morale day lol

This morning I had to look something up and I used a good ol’ fashioned text book! I have 2 text books in my office and I use both a few times per year. Not sure why, but it always makes me happy to feel nostalgic to use a textbook instead of the internet.
Yesterday was my first day of work training for my new job. It was fun & exciting. So much information! So much walking in the giant building! I came home exhausted. I was asleep before 9:30pm.
Oliver Anthony has been flooding my "suggested for you" posts on facebook. I have no idea why, I don't even really listen to country music? Then I looked up the lyrics to his big song, and they are... terrible. Like the absolute worst. The last verse is essentially just "fat people who get government assistance make me mad".
His face is also super punchable. I may need to take a FB break until this dies down because my blood pressure can't handle seeing multiple suggested posts about how great he is.

I love this! I kept all of my accounting textbooks and refer to them more than I thought I would!
