I finally took some time to clean out and organize the kid's toy/games closet in the basement family room. When we moved in we told them to unpack the stuff in there. They took us very literally and placed each individual toy on a shelf. A for effort, but it made it a massive jumble of stuff and they couldn't actually find anything. I sorted it all into clear bins and labelled them, tossed out a bunch of junk, and donated a bunch to Goodwill. Now everything actually fits and you can see it all! I have to walk by it every time I do laundry, so it has been weighing on me that it was such a mess.
I also finally got my living room set up with some seasonal decor! LOL DH makes fun of me for how much I love seasonal decor and swapping things out for different holidays and seasons. I have a bin for each one in the garage. And in the new house we have a beautiful mantle and fireplace that I can decorate so I went to town while he was at work. It's a silly thing but it brings me joy!
I had my low key weekend and actually got some sleep. Dd starts actual class today, but is having a great time.
There are some rumblings about our director wanting people back in the office. I am usually in most days, maybe working from home 1.5 days, which is perfect for me. I think some people are abusing it, or that's the gossip. I hope I can keep that schedule. I can retire in 3 yrs, but would be willing to stay on with the current schedule. Not so much back in the office full time.

DS has a robotics camp this week, 10am-3pm. I have to break up my lunch break at different times to take him and pick him up. He's very excited. Teacher assignments came out this morning. He got the teacher his dad told him he'd probably have since teachers pretty much pick their kids' teachers. I trust ex-H's judgement here and would only fight it if he tried to be DS's teacher again.
The weekend was pretty good. Saturday we spent the day at the county fair. It was hot and I was exhausted when we got home. Sunday we went to Beau's cousin's baby shower and then school shopping. Smoke rolled into our area and it was miserable being outside for the shower. The shower was nice and Beau's cousin (the baby's grandpa who is younger than me) messaged Beau and I last night to thank us for our support. The pregnant cousin just turned 18 and the baby daddy is 16 or 17, so there has been a lot of drama involved, like the baby daddy's parents not showing up for the shower. I have spent a lot of time around this cousin and she often went riding with us. I went crazy on Amazon and want to show her support since she's a good kid and the family doesn't have a ton of money.
Weekend was quiet and I needed that. DH was very annoyed by my need of a quiet weekend and did everything in his power to be loud and annoying. Friday the smoke cleared out and I had a really nice paddle with a friend and then DD and I had a reading afternoon. Sunday DD rode and the smoke was so much better 15 minutes west of our house.
Starting to get flooded with back-to-school stuff from the district. School starts Sept 5th. So far, the district is supplying all school supplies and breakfast/lunch are free. DD's school day is also extended from 8:10-2:10 to now 8-2:15 but the kids can't get to school before 7:40.
Our hurricane/tropical storm passed through yesterday evening and left our specific area pretty unscathed. We have a leaky kitchen window/some drywall around it to fix, but if we go back to normal weather and don't get anymore rain till November, we'll have some time to fix it. A lot of stuff was cancelled yesterday, but DD still had her first travel softball team practice at their indoor facility (the girls all got along really well right off the bat...ha, no pun intended) and I took the boys to a trampoline park while she was there, since we were out anyway. I went for a run around the neighborhood this morning and there are some leaves and small branches down, but I didn't see any storm damage. I would have been annoyed if our schools were closed today like some of the neighboring districts are - but then I'm sure there are areas that got a worse storm than we did.
DD has now reached the age of roaming the neighborhood with friends/hanging at people's houses more (11/6th grade). Saturday she went to one friend's house from 10-1 and then I went to pick her up and she asked if they could all come back to our house to go in the pool. So I piled the 5 girls in my car and brought them to my house and lent swimsuits. The girls were easy, but it was not easy to keep my little boys from bothering them.
I've had a cough for 3 weeks now and DH pointed out that if he had had a cough this long, I would have insisted that he go to the doctor by now It's not really bothering me, and I'm sleeping OK and still doing a hard workout everyday, but I should probably get it checked out at this point. I'm in the office today, so I'm going to go in tomorrow.

I’m writing this from a plane on my way to the to the Midwest. Technology blows my mind sometimes. Wifi in the air!
We had a wonderful weekend. The girls didn’t end up staying home alone Friday evening as DD1’s friend invited her over and when she said she couldn’t go because she was little-sister sitting, invited DD2 too. They had a great couple hours swimming with friend while H and I went to happy hour. Saturday I ran errands with DD1, including dropping in on my parents, while DD2 had lunch with H and then her music lesson. She is still young enough to be cuddly and h said they piled on the couch for cuddles too. Then DD2 and I went to a craft thing at the library while DD1 did her chores and homework and that evening we all piled on the couch, again, to watch a movie. It was a couch weekend, I guess. Sunday DD2 had a playdate, H was working, and DD1 followed me around playing Stardew valley from whatever room I happened to be cleaning, lol. Very relaxing all around.
This is going to be a busy week but in a good way. I am fully booked to take advantage of a rare in-office week. For once I don’t think I forgot anything. I’m ready to attend some training, get buy-in on projects, and attend happy hour. The only downside is I’m bringing the heat with me — sorry Minneapolis.
I picked up a small summer cold late last week and it kicked my butt this weekend. I was glad that my friend cancelled a get-together on Saturday. Instead, we tried to go to Sam's Club to get ready for school lunches. However, our van died on the way. After getting the van towed and calling FIL for a ride home to get my car, we finally got there. Then we met my parents for dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday. Yesterday I spent all morning in bed and was still exhausted. I tried to rally and went to the park with DH and the kids for a few hours, but I ended up with a headache. Whatever this is can go away now. DS1 gets an expander today, DS2 has a checkup tomorrow morning, we have taekwondo tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday (it's testing week!) and the kids start school on Thursday. Work is getting way too busy and I still have planning for my class to finish by next Wednesday.
I put our weekend in the Friday post. I am off work today because the parking lot is getting refinished. I am not expected to work from home and will get paid and not use PTO.
My problem is I never do anything fun on these days. Our second round of fly infestation is occurring. I don’t know how they get in the house we keep storm and screen doors closed 99% of the time. I guess it’s that 1% as people enter and leave the house. I always spend these days cleaning and doing laundry and it’s too hot outside to do anything outdoors.
I need to start a post on fun things to do on days off.
DH was redeemed at work that his report was correct and the other group’s wasn’t so he’s happier.
waverly if a day sitting by a pool sounds fun to you at all, I highly recommend resortpass.com. Looks like there are several options in the Chicago area. It feels like a mini vacation to me to sit by a pool and read and order lunch and a drink

That’s a good idea especially during the winter doldrums season.

I did a deep purge over the weekend and loaded up 3 trunks full of stuff for donation. It took the whole day on Saturday but I felt really good.
A good co-worker of mine just told me that she will be welcoming home a new baby girl this week. They've been on the adoption wait-list for years, so I'm so happy for them.
Ugh. This Monday is the most Monday-ish Monday ever. I had a big presentation at 8:00 this morning. It went okay, but getting to it!!! DH has been having back issues. This morning he was in severe pain. I asked him if he needed me to take DS to school and even said “if so, please say so now so I can leave a few minutes early because I must be back by 8:00.” At 7:35 he was in so much pain, he couldn’t walk. It’s a 15 min drive to DS’s school. So I started my Teams meeting in my car and transferred to my computer.
After my meeting, I ended up taking DH to the ER, where they gave him Valium and a pain med shot. I left him at the ER with his mom and DD to go to a work meeting. While at that meeting DS’s school nurse called that DS had a headache and couldn’t choke down Tylenol chewable and they were out of liquid Tylenol. Luckily he went back to class. So now I’m about to go pick him up since DH can’t drive on Valium.
Agreeing with Monday can suck it. I just completely lost track of time and forgot DD1’s very important therapy appointment that has been on the same day at the same time for almost 4 years.
campermom- it’s worth it because this will be a monthly thing and because you want it in the record that’s he’s already violating the order. But you know that.
My weekend was good. Water park with DD2 and a few girls from her girl scout troop Saturday. Both girls had sleepovers this weekend. Sunday, we had a lazy morning and DD1 and I volunteered at our humane society for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Today at work was weird. My anxiety is just up. I think menopause is becoming more problematic too. I'm really feeling off. I went for a chill mountain bike ride with a friend while DD2 had mountain bike practice tonight. I feel better now. Hopefully the rest of the week picks up.
I talked to the mechanic yesterday...The transmission in our van is shot and will have to be completely rebuilt. It will cost $4k and we won't get the van back for a month (mechanic is super busy). DH and I decided to get it fixed and hope to get another 2-3 years out of it since buying a used van will be around $25-30k. It's a good thing that I work from home and the kids will be back in school this week because going down to one car requires a little more planning...
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
DD had a fit because I made her put away laundry. DS had a fit because I made him get out of bed and eat breakfast. The dog had a fit because my neighbor's son insisted on riding his scooter from our driveway to the corner (we are the corner house) back and forth non-stop and somehow didn't realize that he was causing the dog to flip out. My client is now throwing a fit because I'm holding him to the revised terms of the legal agreement HE AGREED TO less than a month ago and is already in violation of. My boss is having a fit because he thinks that me enforcing the agreement is treating them like they "committed original sin" and I'm not even sure WTF that's supposed to mean. Hold me.
