We were on vacation in August so I did a good amount of reading.
Atalanta by Jennifer Saint Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia The Dry by Jane Harper House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig Hide by Kiersten White Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas
I rated almost all of these as 4* reads and would really recommend any of them. House of Root and Ruin was a bit disappointing but mostly because it didn't live up to the previous book.
I also read a few Kindle Shorts: The Candles are Burning (Into Shadows #6) by Veronica Henry Out of the Mirror, Darkness (Into Shadows #7) by Garth Nix Void (The Far Reaches #2) by Veronica Roth Slow Time Between Stars (The Far Reaches #6) by John Scalzi (favorite of this list)
4*- good The Mistress of Bhatia House by Sujata Massey
3*- ok The Day of Fire by Stephanie Dray (3.5*) The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi (3.5*) The Last Ranger by Peter Heller Just Another Missing Person by Gillian Mc Allister (2.5*)
2*-meh Homecoming by Kate Morton (2.5*) The Secret Book of Flora by Patti Callahan Henry (2.5*)
DNF The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett
I don't know that I would recommend anything this month. I do like the Perveen Mistry series by Sujata Massey, but I don't think it's for everyone.
Legends and Lattes (technically I read 90% of it in July, but I finished a few hours into August 1!) Fourth Wing Mister Magic Going Zero The Bullet That Missed (Thursday Murder Club) The Lost for Words Bookshop A Likely Story The Last Word
My favorites were probably Legends and Lattes and Fourth Wing because they were the books I needed to get me out of my July slump. The Last Word was very graphic and kind of disturbing. The others were good.
I read a freakish amount of books in August but I think my favorites were Woman No. 17 by Edan Lepucki, Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth, Mister Magic by Kiersten White, Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll and The Fortune Seller by Rachel Kapelke-Dale.
And I want to discuss the ending to The Anniversary by Stephanie Bishop but I don’t know anyone else who read it.
Visual: The Cloisters by Katy Hays 2* The Seven Day Switch by Kelly Harms 3* The Exiles by Jane Harper 3*
I’d probably recommend Bono’s book if you like U2. I especially liked hearing his voice and he probably could have been reading anything for that alone. Sometimes he’s self-centered, other times he’s pretty insightful and I found some of his stories pretty great. Overall genuine.

Love, Theoretically was good! I think I might like it better than her first book.
The rest of the books were the Throne of Glass series. I do recommend it to anyone that likes fantasy! The books I finished in Aug were Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, and Tower of Dawn. I'm getting through the series so I can move to Crescent City and finish those 2 before book 3 comes out!
I read Notes on an Execution - 3* I think this book was recommended here, but I thought it moved too slowly and some parts, especially the chapters written from the prisoner's perspective, were boring. Dark Corners - 4* Second in the Rachel Krall series. I liked it better than the first. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - 3*. I thought this was such an interesting concept, but it was soooo long. Black Cake - 4* This one moved along and was just really interesting All That is Mine I Carry With Me 2*. Two start may have been too generous for this one.
Currently reading Radium Girls. I love it because I told my 11 year old DD about it and now she keeps asking for updates.

Currently reading Radium Girls. I love it because I told my 11 year old DD about it and now she keeps asking for updates. There is a young readers edition of Radium Girls if she is interested in reading about it herself. I haven't read that version, but have heard good things about it.
The Thirteenth Month by Elizabeth Hunter - 4.5 stars; Highly recommend this book. It's an interesting take on time travel where some people are born being able to travel via an innate magic, but it's a secret and they are controlled by a secret group and by their laws they are only allowed to travel to the past. It's really well done.
Starling House by Alix E. Harrow - 4 stars; this was an ARC and is being published in October. I thought this was a perfect 'spooky' book for me because it wasn't gruesome or scary haha!
The Duke Starts a Scandal by Sophie Jordan - 2.5 stars; this was also an ARC and is also being published in October. The characters just weren't as well developed and their relationship was very surface level.
