I work in construction, so the days that I get to wear a dress are very few and far between. It's supposed to be 90+ today, so I wanted to wear a dress, but had an on-site meeting in the afternoon, so I reluctantly wore jeans. They just cancelled the meeting. So now I'm hot and in jeans and I just want to wear a damn dress.
My friend and I waited too long to see Barbie, and I can't decide if we should go to the drive-in this weekend or just wait until it's streaming. I typically love a drive-in, but it's so hot this week, and I don't want a good movie spoiled by sweating.
livinitup, This past May? That was so recently. My mom has been widowed since January and March/April were actually her hardest months. May wasn't great either TBH. She really started doing better around June/July and has been very social but a lot of that socialization is with other widows right now. Things that she would have done with my dad, like hanging out with the neighbors, she still skips. Is she going to a grief group?
isabel, circa1978, - no it's not mandatory to chip in and bosses make little more than staff. In fact I had staff that made more than me as a new supervisor. It's literally "hey want to chip in?" There's no other question than that. I honestly think some just need something to complain about.
There is no budget for food/morale/etc.
isabel, I can give a hour off work. I cannot do a full day without paperwork. The same amount of paperwork for time off or cash. Which is why I figured they would want cash.
scm1011, omg! I used to think the T couldn't get worse, but I was wrong!
In other bad behavior news, a local parent apparently boarded a school bus and screamed at the driver, as well as a 10-year-old who defended the driver and told the parent to stop. What's wrong with people??
@sameoldstory , wow. So he wants a peloton now. I hope he isn’t expecting you to keep paying the monthly on it. And enjoy that rebill fucker.
When I originally got the bike he wanted to use it so I set him up as a user under my account. He still never used it so I recently deleted him. The hell that I'm paying for him LOL If/when he takes the bike I'll just make sure to log out. He can pay his own damn subscription.
I'm not sure if he was trying for O'Neal (mountain bike/motocross brand) or O'Neill (surf/beach brand)
But either way, he ended up with a shirt that says "O'Neil" and when you look at the listing on Amazon it is for like family reunions for people named O'Neil. Which we are definitely not.
He wears it regularly and I have never said a word. LOL.
I’m so annoyed with Xfinity and even more annoyed that they are the only option where I live.
They did some work last week and since then, our internet will randomly go out then come right back on. But now there’s an outage until 12 today. I’m supposed to be WFH. Ugh.
ssmjlm , It sounds like you are in a tough spot and have good intentions./short answer
Optional additional long answer fueled by grad school class and being literally forced to design interventions on this topic at the moment:
It's possible people just want to complain, but I think in this situation, it's also possible it's a misalignment between how the staff and organizers are seeing this. You could do a quick and anonymous feedback survey after the next event (Google has a tool that is free) to see if there is really an issue or just some vocal complainers. It can be really simple, with just a few questions about how they enjoy the events, their likelihood of attending one in the future, and open suggestions (with parameters for what is and isn't possible) for what low or no-budget things would be good alternatives. If the group as a whole reports liking the event, you are all good. If not, you can save yourself some time and effort and not do it in the future, and you might get some suggestions on what would have more currency for the current staff.
macmars45,Oh hi. I am getting a transvaginal ultrasound Friday for the same situation. I thought the new IUD would fix my spotting and spot my period again but nope. I got it in May and am having that same cycle more or less.

I work for the state and it is the same for us. Our money is SO restricted. It might sound silly to others, but no we wouldn't have $100 for pizza that could actually be spent on pizza. When I started in this job I tried to order food for a new hire that I was overseeing the onboarding. It was a big fat no on $20 for a sandwich delivery.
My office is going through the same thing. People don't want to pay in, even if it is not mandatory. So then we do nothing. And then people complain about how we don't do anything fun. I mean, I don't care. I don't come to work for fun lol. But it is the same people who both complain about being asked to pay if they want pizza that also want to have fun things.
My kid has to choose between band and study hall. She should absolutely do study hall. The amount of homework already in 5th grade is way more than we are used to. She already participates in sports plus, new this year, her whole grade has to do choir. So of course I just shelled out money for a saxophone.

You are very correct that it is recent and I gently pointed that out to H but he’s getting the brunt of her complaining about ‘not being invited’ while the info that she is declining is coming from his brother. I might be picking up on a lot of nervous energy about “what do we do with mom?”. It’s an adjustment for all of us. She’s is not self reflective at all and quite defensive at any hint that she may be a participant in anything in which she complains. A widow support group is a good idea or any group at all. I’ve never known her to join any type of group or activity. She’d be great at running something for a cause. That’s a good thought.
I normally handle school drop off for kid because H goes to work early to get off early and I drive her because no way in heck am I putting her on the bus at 6:15AM. Today he had an eye doctor appointment so I made a point of saying "great, you can do drop off then!" and made sure I did it in front of kid because I knew she'd be all about that LOL. So he did drop off and I got 15 minutes extra at home to watch GMA - win for me!
I have some stuff I need to shred but our office shredder is horrid sounding and makes my ears itch so I'm psyching myself up to do it.
I've been in the online queue for Zach Bryan tickets for half an hour. I seem to have stalled out with 7,000 people still ahead of me. Not sure if they have sold out of presale tickets or what is going on. The show isn't until August 2024! This is not Taylor Swift. Why is it such a hassle to get tickets for anything?
I kept hearing this sort of whine when I accelerated while driving. I thought maybe it was because I did a lot of driving on dirt roads while away at my weaving class in the mountains and something got clogged? I don’t know. It was driving fine.
Anyway, I was going to take it in when it became apparent today that it’s my radio! Apparently that can happen with old stereos and wires getting loose.
My car is 19 years old and has a CD player so I guess it’s her time but now what. Can I buy a stereo and get someone to put it in for me? When I had to get my door handles replaced that was cheaper, quicker and easier than having them order it. Or is that going to be more of a hassle? I really would like to drive this car forever and it’s nice having the radio even if I was having to hook up a Bluetooth device to it to listen to anything good.

Yes, it's pretty easy to replace the radio unit in most cars. It's probably easier in older cars than newer ones. I've done it in my most recent 2 cars because I wanted Android Auto and it wasn't available from the manufacturer for the car I had. However, it probably won't be cheap. I think I spent about $800 each time (unfortunately the first car I did this in was totaled in under a year so I had to do it again on the replacement car).
Also, any time I hear something weird while driving, I mute my radio. Most of the time, it's coming from the music.
About three weeks ago, I strained my IT band and made a PT appointment, which is today. Worked with said super nice, “coach” who identified what I was doing wrong (and he got cinnamon rolls for that). It’s been fine since then. But, I forgot to cancel the appointment. So, I guess I’m going to go in for a checkup.
rubytue , I keep forgetting to ask you-- did your H take the sewer plant job? Has he started yet?
Oh! I kept meaning to tag you where I talked about it. I guess we are even on neglect 😂
Yes! It took forever, but eventually an offer did come through. And by then he has talked himself into the benefits. He is still in the preemployment stuff. His physical was scheduled last week, he got Covid. So he did it yesterday. I expect he will get a start date soon, maybe scheduled this week.
livinitup , It is really hard. I keep thinking that this is like when I was a teen or young adult and going through life phases and would complain to my mom and she felt helpless and wanted to fix it. Now I want to fix it. And some things, like needing to rearrange your life around this gap, is just messy. My mom is similar in that she is very independent, has no financial worries. In a way, I think that made grief more complicated because there was nothing really to "take care of" after he died. She just has to deal with the pain and figuring out who she is without him. Being in a situation where he would have been there or people will ask about him - those things are still really hard for her. Starting fresh with new people has helped a lot. But she still wants to be considered, if that makes sense? Hang in there.
ETA: The other thing, that my cousin is going through with my aunt, is that she now complains to us when she would have complained to her husband. That takes getting used to as a child. Having peers helps with that too, IMO, because my aunt does it so much more than my mom and she hasn't been as proactive about making a new life without my uncle, even though he's been gone two years.
I took an online skills test where I forgot everything I knew about xcel, so that was awesome. I expect I won't hear anything from that job application. sigh...
I am in the office today. I have been trying to do better meal prep these last couple of weeks, so I have multiple leftovers in the fridge. I grabbed the wrong thing for lunch today, so I was very confused when I opened up my portable bowl! It's fine, though this was supposed to be a DINNER leftover so now I'm short a dinner. Or I could just eat my lunch for dinner, but it seems more appealing for lunch.
One downside to being in the office is that when my stomach is gassy (which is like 80% of the time) I end up holding it in all day and feeling really bloated by the time I leave for home. I don't know how I ever did this five days a week (and at one point, without stretchy waist pants!)

I kept muting the radio when I heard it but since I’m driving in a lot of noisy city traffic, I wasn’t sure that was it until I was finally driving some place quieter. It’s like a weird whistle that came and went but now it’s a lot more frequent. Apparently that can happen with loose wires picking up outside noise??
If it’s that much money, I might just listen to my phone super loud and deal. lol
