"The judge sentenced the actor after rejecting a defense motion for a new trial that was argued earlier Thursday. The sentence was the maximum allowed by law. It means Masterson will be eligible for parole after serving 25 1/2 years, but can be held in prison for life.
“I know that you’re sitting here steadfast in your claims of innocence, and thus no doubt feeling victimized by a justice system that has failed you,” Olmedo told Masterson before handing down the sentence. “But Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person’s voice, and choice. One way or another you will have to come to terms with your prior actions, and their consequences.”

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher wrote letters to the judge asking for leniency in sentencing. Kunis described him as a “role model” with “exceptional character.”

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I’m not disappointed, I’m disgusted by the letters of support that have been written. This isn’t a man who has admitted his crimes, shown remorse for the devastation he has caused or done anything to show he has worked to change. The women he raped have been dealing with the harm he caused for decades- now he needs to deal with it.

Were the letters read out loud in court like the victim statements were or did they think no one would know about the letters? I can’t imagine them not have a publicist that would advise against it/tell them what a bad look it would be especially consider the charity work they do.

I would assume they must know they’d come out and simply didn’t care.
Kutcher has made statements all along that made it pretty clear they were close and he supported him during the trials and investigations.
It’s very possible he is against trafficking and sexual violence in the abstract and but like many people value their friends over other people.
Plus charities and speaking out about popular causes is good PR. The charity he started with with Demi Moore keeps being used in defense of his writing the letter so I guess it’s paid off.
The work the charity supports has been pretty controversial too

My understanding is that the defense attorney can request that the letters be sealed by the judge, but the judge doesn’t have to and chose not to in this case. Therefore they are part of the court records and they were leaked to the public by someone with access. (Not illegally, just we don’t know who did it.)

Kutcher and Kunis have released a video explaining they only meant for the judge to see the letters, and the letters in no way intend to diminish the pain and suffering or even belief of the victims.
Too late dudes. Where was your PR team on this?
I see so many social media people saying, "just because you were friends with the dude in the 90s?"
I guess people didn't realize that Kutcher had a show called The Ranch on Netflix or Amazon Prime and Masterson was a character cast in it. They have been close friends for years. It's hard to see past one's blind loyalty, I guess.

Lol, of course they didn't want the letter they wrote defending their friend the serial rapist to be public. And the letters DO diminish the pain and suffering and validity of victims. Own your shit, assholes.

I saw a TikTok video yesterday that went down the rabbit hole of Ashton and Danny's friendship. Apparently there is a video of Ashton on the Rosie O'Donnell show laughing about how he and Danny had a bet about whether Ashton would shove his tongue down Mila Kunis's throat - when she was 14. He and Mila were on the Rosie show and Rosie was flabbergasted while Mila didn't think anything of it. And the fact that he was making a bet about doing that to a 14 year old and how gross that is went way over his head. The video then went into some potential other stuff he might have dark secrets about, and their friendship may very well be based on protected those skeletons on both sides. Very disappointing.
I saw that she is requesting spousal support and I’m not sure how that would work. Would it just be pulled from his assests each month?
I'm assuming he's still getting residuals from That 70s Show.
I wonder how much? A lot of those older shows don’t get much from streaming. The Gilmore Girls cast said they got basically nothing when it went to Netflix.
I bet he got a lot for a long time though so probably has investments. He really hasn’t worked a huge amount since. Maybe some from his childhood acting/modeling days if his parents did a good job with that money?

All of those interviews from back then were awful. As was when he was hosting Punked. I feel like Ashton has been very upfront with who he is for decades. I guess most people don’t pay attention or just brushed it off?
