Due to water damage from a leaking toilet, my husband and I have been thrown in to an unplanned renovation. Since the master bathroom is 90% gutted (the only thing that survived is the tub with plastic surround and 2.5 walls) we are just going to upgrade everything. We have been inconvenienced for a month already and have decided to only order items in stock or delivery within 1 week which is limiting our choices to home depot or lowes or the like.
I need help with shower tile accent (or skip accent) and if we should use different tile in the niche and which niche we should pick out.
It's a large bathroom. I'm attaching current pictures, vanity & mirror we bought. We got black faucets also, but not the ones in the image.
I have decision fatigue- we're redoing this bathroom, the other full bath upstairs and all floors in the house. This is the tile we love. What tile would complement for an accent row (or skip) and would you use the same tile for the niche

I was going to say that looks like the accent tile since it's such a small format. I'd probably do a large format tile like 8x20 that coordinates w/that tile. Or otherwise just do the small tile (that's a lot of grout to keep clean though).
Do you have a Floor and Decor nearby? You can buy tile in stock same day and return as needed.
That’s a pretty tile - I’d skip the accent. One thing about a niche - go bigger than you think you need!
I agree on both counts (e.g. continuing wall tile in the niche and skipping an accent row). We also did two shelves in our recent niche -- it bugs me in my other shower that there is a whole shelf with just a razor and soap on it, so in the new one we created a very small shelf at the top for that stuff! I also like Schluter (?) strip (the metal strip) instead of pencil trim for "ending" tile in the niche and wall, I think it looks a lot cleaner.
Love the tile, but is it possible to so something similar in a larger format? It looks more like an accent tile to me instead of like an entire tub surround. It's really pretty though.
ETA: I think part of what draws me to the tile you posted is the color variations, so I'd suggest maybe looking at a tile that has a "marble" look with the different veining and colors. Not necessarily this, but these are more along the lines of what I am picturing
Floor is LVP that has gray undertones (port Isabel blonde oak) that we are doing whole house (availability, decreased labor required, and less decisions to make).
And no floor & decor- I actually had never heard of it before and looks like the closest is 130 miles away 😕
dr.girlfriend 1 - that is the most functional niche I've ever seen 2 - is that a HVAC vent in your shower?
1 - Thanks! 2 - Yep. It was a 1950's house where they used every square inch, and the central heating and air was installed in the 70s. We tried to move it to the ceiling with this renovation but it didn't work out. In the old shower it was above the tiling, but with this one we decided to tile all the way up to the ceiling. At least I got a pretty vent cover that echoes the design of the floor tile, although it's a brighter white than I would have hoped.

That's really interesting. I've never seen a vent in that spot before - had to ask about it.

No worries. It's a teeny bathroom. Two walls are solid brick and the other is all door, so there was no place else really to put it I'm sure.
simpsongal, we have a similar niche in our shower. I believe it is a Schluter systems niche. The shelves are definitely schluter shelves. Our tile installer purchased those for us. The shelves match the Schluter trim. You can place the shelf where you want it.
I love the tile you selected, and don’t think you need to go with a larger format. Just make sure you keep your grout sealed. I agree with others & would skip an accent. Good luck with your renovation. Can’t wait to see the results!
Dr. G - did you get your niche at floor and decor? Can you link it if so? I need one for our kids' bathroom reno. dr.girlfriend ,
Sorry, it's just a basic tileable niche that the shower guys provided, I think. The shelves were installed by them within it. There's a photo of it here in a pile of buckets if that helps!
So after 2 months of repair (again, multiple rooms sustained damage so this wasn't the only project) + 3 total months of chaos, the contractors finished this afternoon. We got 3 shelves instead of a niche and the tile is a larger version of the accent tile. We still need to put the shower curtain and decor back but here is the finished bathroom & "before" listing photo from when we moved in last summer:
Thank you! I can't find the paint chips right now but the adjoining bedroom is a deeper teal so the bathroom falls about two shades lighter.
The floor and tile photographed darker than they are in person (floor is more blond than it shows). All in all, I am SO happy to feel like we have our house back and finally get to put things back together after all these months. The only dangerous part is now the areas that haven't been touched up are feeling dingy and I want to throw some fresh paint on them as well. Haha
