I need to do something about my couch. it's old, the fabric is falling apart and it looks like crap. But I really have no interest in spending money on a couch right now.
So I was thinking about a cheap slipcover to just make this one last a weeeeeee bit more. Structurally it's in good shape, the cushions are still comfortable, it's just the fabric falling apart. I could recover them (I've done it before on a different couch), but that's a whole ass undertaking that I have no desire to do right now.
Has anybody ever purchased a slipcover that didn't look stupid? amazon reviews of the stretchy ones aren't filling me with confidence - even the positive reviews have pictures that look like hell.
Or should I just suck it up and be a grownup who buys a couch? We still somehow have a house that's still 99% handmedowns and ikea despite that fact that we're 40 years old and have lived here for 14 years. the couch and loveseat we bought from my IL's neighbors for like $100. Furniture has just never been something I wanted to drop a bunch of money on.
wawa , I got some stretchy ones on Amazon that look ok if you tuck them in. Or if you are handy at all, maybe tailor them to size. Our cats love the texture of our chairs so I bought some covers preemptively.
My random is that our summer flowers look to be mostly done blooming. It's probably time to switch to mums but they never seem to last all that long.
I want something decorative on our front stoop. It's too early to decorate for Halloween.

could go with colorful corn?
can you send me the link to the one you got? (assuming it was recently enough that the listing still exists)
wawa I had a SureFit slip cover on a couch at our old house. We got rid of the couch (and cover) when I needed to take over the space for a home office, but it did the job. It was a comfortable couch that we got for free as a hand me down because the previous owner's cat scratched an arm and the back. Got a slip cover in a neutral color so it didn't draw attention, threw on some pretty throw pillows, maybe a blanket over the back. DONE. Ours was 3 pieces and it felt like more pieces = better fit.
If you aren't excited about furniture shopping, be the kind of grownup who spends her money on other things she enjoys!
calamity , mums seem like an easy choice! Everywhere is selling them around now.
I grabbed the couch cover calamity recommended too. We have two sets of the cover for our Ektorp sofa but they're both looking pretty grungy and Ikea discontinued them. We're not planning to replace our couch while our dog is alive so hopefully these will help.
I'm really stressed the heck out. This week and next are some of my busiest of the year for work. MH is having hernia repair surgery Friday. I'm having surgery in October (salpingectomy). There's some other family health stuff going on I can't talk about here for reasons.
Two nights ago I couldn't sleep and started fixating on the fact that we don't have wills. Trying to get that figured out before Friday, which is morbid but probably smart. I found a template online but open to any suggestions. It's really just our house and general money/possessions.

My dog has an ear infection and the vet gave us drops to put in her ear.
It's apparently really infected so I imagine it hurts quite a bit when we touch her ear so I can't exactly blame her that she fights us so much but I honestly don't know if I can do this every day twice a day.
I'm hoping after a couple days it'll feel better so she'll stop fighting so much.

LOL, this is why we haven't bought one! We bought a sailboat instead. Which...doesn't seem like it should be in the same decision making category, but turns out you can get very old but still seaworthy sailboats for pretty damn cheap. Ours is the same age as my sister!
we'd talked about sailboats for ages as this future hypothetical, wouldn't it be nice kind of thing....and then one day MH mentioned off hand that we could get a little sub 30' 80's sailboat for a few grand and I was like, DUDE. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR??? and now we're sailboat people?

I got a cover for my Ikea sleeper sofa from Masters of Covers. I was skeptical but it was the only one I could find. I love it! It fits perfectly and is well-labeled so you know where all the parts go (it's a complicated shape).

We had to let our sweet old pup go this morning and I am so sad. It was sudden and unexpected and I am just not in a place to deal with all these emotions.

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.ā

I'm so sorry. We said goodbye to one of our cats about 6 months ago and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.
