Indicted Trump Asks to Buy a Glock at Campaign Stop—Which Would Be Illegal

In a PR stunt gone terribly wrong, former President Donald Trump went gun shopping on Monday with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and asked to buy a Glock pistol on camera—which would have brazenly violated the very same law that recently landed Hunter Biden criminal charges.
Federal law prohibits anyone under indictment from attempting to buy a firearm. Trump has been criminally indicted four times in as many jurisdictions—Atlanta, Miami, New York, and Washington—facing dozens of felony charges that could land him in prison for decades.
“I wanna buy one,” Trump said while taking a tour of Palmetto State Armory, a federally licensed gun dealer in South Carolina that's widely revered by firearm enthusiasts.
“Sir, if you want one, this one’s yours,” a person on the tour said, seeming to divert the president away from making an actual purchase.
“No, I wanna buy one,” Trump insisted.
It only added to the fiasco when those present pulled South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson into the photo op—as well as his brother, Julian Wilson, an executive at the private equity company that owns the gun dealer. They are both Republican Congressman Joe Wilson’s sons.
The disaster started when Trump's campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, tweeted that his boss actually went through with the sale.
"President Trump purchases a @glockinc in South Carolina!" he posted Monday afternoon.
But the campaign went into damage control mode as soon as firearms journalist Stephen Gutowski and others pointed out that the entire transaction would be blatantly illegal.
“Did he actually go through with the purchase?” Gutowski asked openly in tweet.
Cheung later claimed to CNN that Trump never actually went through with the purchase—and deleted his original statement. The Daily Beast could not immediately independently confirm whether Trump finalized the deal.
WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump and Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona suggested that outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley was a traitor who deserved to be executed.
Trump blasted Milley in a social media post on Friday that accused Milley of going behind his back by making phone calls to Chinese counterparts in the final months of Trump’s administration.
“If the Fake News reporting is correct, [Milley] was actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States,” Trump wrote in the post on his Truth Social site.,
“This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been death!”
How this guy keeps getting reelected is beyond me. His entire family hates him (Gosar)
Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., suggested Monday that he will not resign from his Senate seat amid federal corruption charges and predicted he would be cleared of wrongdoing.
His remarks were soon followed by Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio — chairman of the Banking panel where Menendez chairs a subcommittee — calling on the New Jersey Democrat to step down. Brown is the second Democratic senator to call for Menendez's resignation.
Speaking to reporters at a news conference in Union City, N.J., where he once served as mayor, Menendez said, "I firmly believe that when all the facts are presented, not only will I be exonerated, but I still will be New Jersey’s senior senator.”
They were his first public remarks since the charges against him were unsealed Friday.
Menendez also offered an explanation for the $480,000 in cash prosecutors said was found in his New Jersey home, “much of it stuffed into envelopes and hidden in clothing, closets, and a safe.
.... Fetterman's team also confirmed a report in the The Messenger that they are returning $5,000 in donations that Menendez gave to his 2022 campaign. “We are in the process of returning the money,” Fetterman spokesman Joe Calvello told NBC News, “in envelopes stuffed with $100 bills.”
I believe this is the second time he's faced corruption charges.
Menendez is going to win his primary and win re-election because NJ politics are wiiiiiild.
I’m hearing rumors that Andy Kim is going to primary him, and I’m really hoping they’re true. I love Andy and would love to see him move to senate. I’m aghast that Melendez is running again, and was even before these latest charges. He’s awful!
But I won’t lie, I vote against him every primary, but won’t risk the seat by not voting for him in the general.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

NJ politics are already annoying me. I have a NJ cell phone number and keep getting calls and texts. I haven't lived in NJ in 20 years. Stop calling me and find a better way to get your lists!
Also--I love dogs more than is reasonable, but clearly those dogs are way too stressed in this environment. Agree they need to go live with someone else. Poor pups.
Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows got hammered on White Claws during a morning meeting at the White House - because he didn't know they contained alcohol
Commander bites another SS agent. The 11th biting incident for him. Past time to send him away from this stressful environment.
I thought he already got sent home to Delaware. That’s scary.
That was Major.
I sustained a fairly minor bite (only barely broke the skin) from a GSD in mid-May and still have visible marks on my leg. I love animals, but there is no way in hell I can be around that dog again, or let my child around her. Commander needs to go and the Bidens need to not get another dog until they leave the White House.

UK politics: This is how low our government has gone now. It's getting worse and worse every day. I don't even know how much worse it will get before we can get to our general election (which doesn't have to happen until early 2025):
-Rishi Sunak announces U-turn on key green targets (In one of his biggest policy changes since taking office, Sunak confirmed the UK would push back the deadline for selling new petrol and diesel cars and the phasing out of gas boilers, prompting furious condemnation from the automobile and energy industries.)
I thought I’d seen every dumb thing American politics had to offer, and then I read this.
Gavin Newsom representing “Blue states” on Fox News moderated by Hannity. Literally could not make this up. Idiotic.
I can't decide if this would be better or worse than if they just decided to duke it out Celebrity Death Match style. I guess now marrying Kimberly Gilfoyle is no longer the dumbest thing Newsom has done.
Do we collectively just have no appetite for debates? Nothing on the most recent debate farce
For me personally, it was a park to watch at gay bars in DC with everyone yelling at the TV. But then tfg won.
And now? Each one trying to out perform the other in awful. I don't even see the point in watching to criticize. It's no longer fun
I don’t know about collectively but for me, especially with the primary debate there is just too many of them. The last one was what two weeks ago? And this one has all the exact same people. It’s going to be more of the exact same thing.
basilosaurus I had the debate on for about ten minutes last night. Lots of yelling and puffing around posturing snark. I think I shut it off when the North Dakota guy said the solution to deterring mass shooters is to shorten the time to their execution. Sure, Jan, that a quicker court process leading to death would be the deterrent to keep someone otherwise intent on mowing down a crowd of people, instead of, ya know, maybe stricter background checks or limiting sales of certain high powered weapons…. I decided my time was significantly better spent getting a few hours of sleep, so I could get up today, and actually “serve the American people,” literally mentor “the next generation,” and then bust my ass tonight prepping for a huge upcoming community event which fosters literacy, a circular economy, and raises funds for a great cause. So yeah. Maybe I’m extra salty or sleep deprived this morning… but yawn to the debate. ETA my ire is not directed to you at all! 🤣
This is in the shutdown thread, too. But the house starts impeachment hearings today. wapo.st/3rrRUHj Because, that is the most pressing priority.
Democrats need to be shouting this from the rooftops! Yes, Congress can do two things at once, but with a huge, immediate deadline, you don’t just start something else. Infuriating.
