Does anyone have info about the under 5 group switching brands? My 4.5 yr old had Pfizer previously. I've had a heck of a time finding any appts at all for his age group, but I just found some pharmacies with Moderna for ages 3&up. I know it's been fine for adults to get either brand, but I haven't heard about the young kids.
From what I know it's not approved, but anecdotally from a few friends with kids in that age group, because availability is so sparse for that age, it's been sort of a "do whatever you can find" situation.
TBF I do not know if they outright lied about what their kids first series was, or if it wasn't asked, or if the pharmacies just didn't care.

I've been in the opposite situation for my 4 year old-having a heck of a time finding Moderna but no issue with Pfizer for her age group. Her pediatrician said it was okay to switch manufacturers if needed.

My pediatrician office had given everyone Pfizer and they’re now switching to moderna for everyone since they want the single use vials to lessen waste.
I was able to get mine today. Very weird - didn’t ask for my covid card, didn’t tell me to wait 15 minutes. Just jab and have a nice day.
Are there still any countries that require proof of vaccine for entry. I always keep mine in my passport wallet just in but I haven’t been asked for it since 2021 and with them not filling it out this time, I wonder if I even need to bother carrying it anymore.
when i have mine done at a pharmacy, they never ask us to wait 15 minutes

My 10yo and I had no issues. Barely a sore arm. My husband felt bad the next morning and went back to bed. He was fine by the afternoon.
I finally have the kid scheduled for his shots. Oct 21 is the earliest appt I could find that fit into our schedule. He's previously had Moderna, but is scheduled for Pfizer (he's 5).

I got mine together and in the same I barely had side effects- mildly sore arm and was woozy for a couple hours the next day. Previous boosters (of the same brand) have knocked me on my ass for days though. I don’t know if it’s my body getting used to it, then tweaking things to make side effects better, or just a total fluke.

Last year both H and I did them same day, and both of us said never again. This year I did mine a week apart and he did his a couple days apart. He still had a reaction, while I had none.
Then my kids both got Moderna (not on the same day as a flu shot). My 4yo was completely fine the next day, while my 7yo looked and felt terrible. Fever, chills, aches, hollow eyes, no appetite for right about 24h. If one was going to react, I'd have predicted the other way around.
I would KOKO with whatever your plan is. If you got appointments I'd keep them, but then, around me they were tough to get for kids. Reactions are so hard to predict, and we're all just guessing and doing our best. Worst case scenario, your kiddo doesn't feel well at soccer. At least it's not for any contagious reason so you don't have to feel any guilt about trying soccer and letting them take a rest if they're not feeling it. Just give the coach a heads up if that's what you decide.

I usually get my flu and Covid shots together. I'm fortunate that it, so far, has been fine for me.
I waited until this week to start getting shots because up until this week, my schedule was pretty packed. When I attempted to schedule a shot appointment at the CVS that is within walking distance from my house, flu was available for this week but not Covid. So I decided, fine, I will get a flu shot this week so that I could cross one of them off of my list. Then, a message popped up on the CVS website telling me that according to my state's vaccination records, I am eligible to receive a Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, and whooping cough booster), so did I want to schedule one of those at the same time? Pretty smart marketing tactic, CVS! I thought, "sure, why not?" and selected a Tdap booster as well. So, I got my flu shot and a Tdap shot today.
The reason that I was so agreeable to adding on a Tdap booster at CVS's suggestion was because I cut my hand pretty badly about a week before my college graduation years ago, and I had to go to an emergency room to get stitches (there was no Urgent Care back then anywhere near my college), and at that time, I also got a tetanus shot. So, I guess that now I am a sucker for agreeing to get a tetanus shot if any kind of healthcare provider suggests that I get one. I guess that I'd rather just get one now and get it over with, then wait to get one the next time that I cut myself or step on a nail or something.

I got my flu and COVID together earlier this week and aside from insomnia and fatigue (which I’ve had after every one) I felt okay. H will get both likely this week.

The boys have had their flu shots, but we have had a hard time finding COVID for them. Going to try again this week too.

DH and I were ok. I had my usual Covid vaccine side effect of severe insomnia the night after I get my shot (it’s so weird - this was my 5th shot I think and it’s happened every time) so was super tired the next day and a sore arm. DH had a headache and slight body aches the next day - also typical for what usually happens to him post Covid vaccine. Neither of us typically have any reaction to the flu shot

3 out the 4 people in my family got Novavax on Friday. Basically no side effects for any of us. If I pushed on my arm in the area of the shot it was a little sore. Moving my arm around has been fine. The other two in family had the same experience. Not sure if my daughter reacted to previous Covid vaccines, if she did it was minor. Both my husband and I had some reactions to previous Covid vaccines.
So if you are still looking and are worried about side effects, I would consider trying to find Novavax.
My son is too young, but we did manage to get his Covid shot at CVS.

I also got Novavax this weekend. I didn't have any side effects other than some minor injection site soreness for 24 hours, but I never really react to vaccines as it is.
@@ It took me 3 places to find somewhere that would take us and the 10yo.
Finally I found appointments for all of us at Kroger. CVS and Walgreens would not let me schedule her locally. One friend found a CVS 2 towns over that would schedule.
curbsideprophet , fortnightlily , wow, that's great! I didn't think I'd be able to find Novavax quickly so I kept my Moderna appt last week (that I had made 2 weeks ago). Side effects weren't as bad as my early Pfizer shots but I ended up taking a sick day Thur because I was exhausted and had a bad headache. I want Novavax next year!
Everyone in the family is fully vacced with COVID and Flu with pretty much no symptoms. Much better than last year when both kids missed a day of school post COVID shot. The nurse at Walgreens even complemented the kids (10 and 13) how good they were getting their shots. Totally nonchalant even slightly arguing over who would go first.

DS had his annual physical yesterday. Our pediatrician's office offered us the flu shot but NOT the covid shot. They've been running a separate vaccine clinic that adult and child non-patients can make Covid vax appointments at too but that is self-pay because they hadn't gotten answers from the insurance companies about reimbursement. And that clinic isn't open Mondays.
TODAY I got an email from the practice that they are now offering the Covid vaccine, covered by insurance, and that kids can get it during routine visits.
my DD has had the two other COVID boosters at the pharmacy. Any idea why they would now claim that they can't do kids her age? she is 9
the pharmacies around us aren’t ordering the pediatric/under 12 doses (at least that’s what the CVS pharmacist told me). I think since it’s all private now the pharmacies are just able to decide to order or not order them. It’s very frustrating. Luckily my pediatrician is gaving a clinic so we are able to get my 11 year old his booster there.
Just since I know there's a lot of us - if any of the central MD contingent here haven't gotten theirs yet and are fighting the walgreens/cvs game, yall know about the independent pharmacy in columbia, right? Always has availability. Super easy. Super quick. Caplet.

I still haven’t had a reason to use them, but have heard such amazing things. I hope they can stay in business for a very long time!

Kroger didn’t have the under 12. They didn’t even realize it let me book. They are a smaller store.
So she said I could call around, but I may start with the pedi office.
We have COVID in the house for the first time (as far as we know). DH tested positive today. No one else has symptoms so far, but I guess we’ll see. We all have gotten the newest shot within the last 4 weeks. Anyone taken Paxlovid lately? Trying to decide if DH should ask if he can get it, although he’s not high risk.
Another thing, our paperwork definitely said our insurance covered the $180 Covid vaccine. I don't know if they're all covering it, but I can't say I wasn't a bit shocked at the price.
