Interesting article about Elmo and some White Nationalist speech writer that plan to take down Twitter by flooding it with racists and then blaming the Anti Defamation League for X failing. It was also a segment just now on TRMS and it sounds like something pretty “coincidental” and obvious happening as we head toward the elections next year.

the dregs of Urbanist/Transpo Twitter are still kicking around, so i haven't left, but I did delete the app off my phone.  I don't even know where everyone went.  It was such a big busy community with such good info.  Fucking Muskrat.

I think if we've learned anything the last few years, it's that if you are a white man with conspiracy-minded followers, if you say something loud enough and often enough, you can build an alternate reality that some people will happily inhabit and help you maintain/build.

I only still have an account because of work. I deleted the app off my phone months ago. The site is not just a cesspool, it is getting less and less useful over time. Last week I went on to see live info on the NYC-area flooding, and any "trending" hashtag has 1) noticeably fewer people posting original content/video/photos, and definitely fewer that I consider trustworthy sources 2) is flooded with spam & utterly unrelated posts that are hijacking the hashtag and 3) stuff that is clearly not from the hashtagged event and is probably fake but doesn't get debunked.

It's harder and harder to sift through for anything useful, and it's just not worth the effort most of the time. It's a slower implosion than maybe people anticipated, but it's happening.

Exactly. They vehemently repeat his lies despite written, photographic, and video evidence to the contrary. Not to mention just basic level education facts (no, you can't stop California wildfires by dusting guests with water!)

Yesterday (?) he removed text from link previews. Now he's removing all action buttons such as the like/retweet buttons. You have to click into the tweet to get to them.

As someone who won't use Twitter (and haven't ever since they propped up the orange turd's 2016 campaign), I find this who thing so ridiculous.
