I wore a huge ballgown for my first wedding. If I was doing it all over today I would go with a totally different silhouette and material. Something lace for sure.
I'd honestly wear my original again- halter style, kind of mermaid, with three rows of white satin ribbon along the hem and the neckline. It was just a David's Bridal and under $350, but I really loved that dress.
my favorite game to play is "if I got married today, what would I wear?" It is my little fun "take a 5 minute break from reality" game. I have no idea if I would prefer simple or slightly more detailed, as you can see.
(sorry, sequins, I cannot get the pictures to work, lol)
I would definitely wear a dress with straps or sleeves. Nearly every dress in stores in ‘08 was strapless. I really wanted a sweetheart neckline but ended up finding a dress with a skirt and bodice I fell in love with that had a straight strapless neckline. I’d still pick a similar a-line skirt and I like a classy romantic dress with a little sheer/ sparkle or illusion/ fine lace.
Back with pics. I have a formal dress that has a sweetheart neckline with a sheer one shoulder over it that I love but I couldn’t find any examples of wedding gowns like that. I like the K Kleinfeld dress lace best and would want different lace for the others. For satin I love the silhouettes but would like more sparkle, lace or sheer accents.

Ok I love this one, so i revise my earlier post and will say I'd pick this. This is also the most flattering cut and silhouette on me.
I never saw myself as a big wedding kind of person but everyone around me expected it so I went along. #doormat I chose the dress my mom and best friend liked but was never wowed by it. I did find pictures of invitations and a cake that I liked, so I was somewhat helpful. Luckily, I’m still happy with the husband I chose, so that’s good.
I love the last one ellipses84 . My OG dress was a mermaid, very simple and structural. That's still my taste but today I'd go with something with a drop waist or backless/back detail.
This was my wedding dress. Alfred Angelo, pickups, satin, beading at the waist. Could it be anymore 2010? Lol. Somehow I thought the look would be timeless.
If I was getting married for the first time and was still 28, I'd do something a little more romantic, maybe a little lace, and with sleeves or something.
Kate Middleton hadn't gotten married yet when I did, so sleeves weren't as popular.
If I were to get remarried or have a vow renewal now, I'd go with just an evening gown in a bold color, like this:

I've been reading but haven't posted in forever...it took me so long to remember my name on here.
My original dress was from India and weighed over 20lbs if I had to guess. For me it is the most beautiful dress I've ever seen and owned.
I don't know what I'd do. I'd probably still want to wear it, but I'd somehow have to reduce the weight of it. It was stunning but I don't know how functional for actually dancing in it would be.
I still love the dress I wore to elope last August and would choose it again. Pretty comfortable, too!
For our celebration with his family months later, I found an amazing vintage dress, bias cut, long, lace, open back - everything I wanted - in a thrift store for $70. Never worn! It fit perfectly and the staff were delighted somebody was buying it. But I don’t have any pictures back from ppl yet.

I love your taste and your party dress sounds so beautiful. I want to see it!

Probably much the same homemade dress, only I'd splurge for the fine silks and laces or maybe velvet instead of the budget polyester fabrics I used instead because it was all I could afford. I might wear red or green instead of white too. White is kinda boring.
My dress looked a lot like the white dress whatsherface wore in The Two Towers. Not why I chose it, but it ended up looking an awful lot like hers.
