My taste hasn't changed much since 2008, nor has my lack of desire to spend a ton of money . I like form fitting like sheath/column, no train, and not pure white -- either silver or pops of color. Like an Art Deco 1920s vibe. My fantasy dress is probably something from Temperley London or Claire Pettibone.

This is a money is no object post, right? IRL, my dress was a sample that had been discontinued, marked down dramatically, and then was 50% off of the marked down price. $750, including all alterations.

Mine was secondhand that I got at Brides Against Breast Cancer. I think it was also about $700.

The wedding I posted would be wayyyyyyy above our budget even though they claim it was a “backyard wedding” lol. Backyard in Malibu is very different than Backyard of a Home in Northern Suburban Illinois that also houses two big dogs.

I am so, so out of the loop on designers, etc., but somehow Insta algorithms show me reels of dresses that brides chose this week at various bridal salons.  I love a lot of the same elements that I chose like 18 years ago.  Let me see if I can find a sort of representative pic of what I lean toward now.



Mine was A-line with no slit, short train.  Regrettably, mine did not have pockets.

I was actually super keyed into bridal gown designs around the time I was engaged.  Not only was I dress shopping, but I wrote a paper for my art & entertainment law class on the application of design patents, trade dress, and copyrights to bridal gown design.  I got an A+ in the class and submitted the paper in an IP writing competition and won!  I used the prize money to pay for my bar review course.

Not that you're planning on another wedding anyway, but my second wedding was in Malibu! But we had 5 guests and no reception, and got married in a public area so we paid nothing for that part. The beach area in that blog post reminds me so much of the stunning scenery we had though! In my $250 dress

TBH I've had two wedding dresses and I honestly don't know that I'm a dress person. There is probably some psychological trauma around not feeling comfortable with the way I look being the focus, but I picked both dresses pretty easily because I just didn't want to deal with it. My first dress WAS really pretty (for 2009, it's way out of style now) and I did feel pretty good in it, but I think I tried on only a few dresses. My second wedding I didn't have any idea what I should wear and I didn't end up loving the dress. Pretty dress, but not as flattering on me as another one probably could have been. I think I only tried on 3 dresses, all ordered online, and I was like "this will do". I wanted something fun but couldn't find a thing that I liked for the price range I was looking at (i.e., as cheap as possible).

If I could choose my wedding dress today it would be red or mostly red and something I could wear a regular bra with. I don't do strapless bras anymore.

If I could go back in time I'd try on the white & red wedding dress at the shop I found my original dress at. It was gorgeous. I was afraid of doing something 'different'. Older and wiser me says fuck that, wear what you love.

Well, I got married again in 2021 so I had the chance to pick a dress pretty recently. I still love what I wore and I even ended up on Anthropologie Wedding’s IG, which is where I got the dress

I won't wear white because its unlucky in my culture lol. But if I did, I would borrow the oscar de la renta after cville 's imaginary wedding.

I'd probably wear the same thing (If I found it).

Around the time we got engaged, I sketched something I would like. Then we hopped on a plane and moved to a different country for nine months. After we got back I looked at a bunch of dresses. One day I was in a NYC consignment shop and found what I'd sketched for myself. And it fit perfectly (the shop keeper was so thrilled since it was a regular, if good quality, consignment shop so she rarely got to dress a bride). I shipped it back to CA and only needed a seamstress to add a bustle for the reception.

I would definitely wear a dress with straps or sleeves. Nearly every dress in stores in ‘08 was strapless. I really wanted a sweetheart neckline but ended up finding a dress with a skirt and bodice I fell in love with that had a straight strapless neckline. I’d still pick a similar a-line skirt and I like a classy romantic dress with a little sheer/ sparkle or illusion/ fine lace.

Same dress. As I said in the other thread, I loved that damn dress. 2 piece A-line halter, some kind of textured winter white silk, pale pink beading on the bottom. I LOVED that dress. I know I keep saying it, but it's probably my favorite piece of clothing ever.

I LOVE most of Nicole Richie's wedding dress. I'd take the sleeves off, though. I am not a frilly super girly person but I like it for some reason. My own reception dress was similar.

My wedding vibe now is the same as it was back then- just me and H in Italy.  Couldn't get him to agree to that but did end up in Italy for 2.5 weeks a year later. 

I hate being the center of attention when it comes to birthdays, weddings, accomplishments, etc.
