It's shitty, but Biden's hands are tied. They are using funds appropriated for this, that was voted on by congress in 2019. And it's the Homeland Security Secretary that is using his authority to waive certain laws to finally use the money to get this done. Biden said he tried to get the funds re appropriated for something else but it was a no go. Biden and Mayorkas seem to be at odds on this.

The argument that the money has been allocated and they need to follow the law does not sit well with me. Why waive all the environmental and zoning requirements? What about those laws?
I am definitely confused on why the admin thinks this is a good idea. Seems like a lose-lose politically.
I agree with curbsideprophet . I think he is trying to play all sides. Make it look like he is doing something about the border to people like Eric Adams. Saying his hands are tied so it's not his fault to other Dems. Not sure about why he didn't stick with the environmental issues. I think he is trying to make it look like he did something but not actually taking ownership for any of the current problems.

It's the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, that's pushing it through, even though Biden doesn't want it to. I read a different article that says Mayorkas is using some powers of his office to do so.
